Hello, I recently had upc install Digital +.
The box/hard drive is kinda noisy! When on or on stand by. We can hear it while tv is on, and you have to power it off when in that room attempting to read etc! (without telly on)

Ntl have replaced the box but I've the same problem with the replacement.

Any one else encounter this? Its gotta go, its not possible to continue with it at present.

You can be unlucky with noisy disk drives, they're probably still drawing from the same batch as the first box. Your best strategy would probably be to hang on for a month or so until they get a new batch, then ask them to change it.

What is the box standing on? What are the surroundings like?

Its sitting on its own rubber pads.
I've placed carpet under it. A small rubber mat. Have relocated it. All to no avail.

My digital+ box seems fine, not much noise.

Mine is noisy too. Constant Wrrrrrrr. Even when not recording.

Ive banished it to the kitchen - and Im back on Analog signal in the main room :/

Has anyone heard anyone switching the internal Harddrive for a solid state one? I wouldnt mind reduced recording capacity for a quiet tv box.

I switched to the older silver in colour ntl box.
Smaller hard drive but NO noise.

If anyones interested - Noise seems to be from a small fan inside the box rather than the harddrive itself.

If they had made it with more vent holes it prob wouldnt have needed a fan.
