    Hi,

My first time posting. I'm gettin married in July this year and need to start shopping for wedding dresses. Want to start by looking in all of the usual shops. Just wondering what are the price ranges in Berkertex, de Staffords etc. I wold like to get my dress for a decent price but would like to know what to expect from these kind of shops before I go to my first appointment!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

first of all get out there asap, some dresses take 6 months to arrive.

As for price, it varies a lot. You can pick up beautiful non tradtional dresses for €100. Traditional wedding dresses in Ireland start from about €1000 and go up to about €4000. Most that I tried on here were in the range of about €1200.

in the end I bought online from the USA. The €2000 dress I loved in Ireland was only $500 (same designer, genuine).

In Berketex the prices range from about 800 up.
De Staffords is a bit pricier.

Dress prices generally range from about 750 to 6000+ but most I saw were in the range 1200 - 2000.

You can get much cheaper dresses if you try the high street (Debenhams, monsoon, littlewoods online all do wedding dresses). Oxfam and Barnardos both have wedding dress sections that you can buy off the rail for between 200 and 400 euro. Some of them have never been worn.

Keep an eye out for sample sales in the bridal shops where they sell off their sample dresses. Sometimes you can get them in really good condition and they are about 200 euro.

Agree with the other poster though, you need to get out ASAP. Most shops require 6 months to order a dress, thats not for dresses that are getting made for you, thats for a standard dress that they have to order in your size. Its usually 4 months for the dress to come in and then 2 months for fittings/alterations.

Thanks so much for the replies. I only realised on Saturday that I needed that long to order a dress! I think I need to read up a bit more on all of this wedding suff :)

I am definately trying the charity shops too but can't get an appointment for a few weeks so I thought I would try some of the normal shops to get an idea of what I like.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply - it's helped a lot :)

There's no harm going to a few shops, trying on all different styles (corset, drop waist, short dresses, slinky, meringues etc) deciding what you are confortable in and then widening your search to include high street shops, second hand and also look on adverts.ie and all the wedding websites have buy and sell sections where recent brides are selling off their dresses for very little.

    Best of luck
