    Ok here is my problem

I am techincally challnged and have no idea about cables or what is necessary to receive signals etc... all i know is that years ago my father split the main signal coming into the living room to feed to other rooms in the house. we have 2 reception rooms and 3 bedrooms....

looking into having to get digital i am encountering problems.

all i know is that there is a white box in all the rooms with a single white cable coming out feeing the televisions. i have hear upc allow for multiroom viewing by paying 5euro extra a month with 50 or something for connection. my first query is this... with the current system running through the house will we have to pay the connection fee or is the current wiring sufficient? I am reluctant to ask upc directly as i am not sure if they are aware of the split signal and i dont want to get into trouble.

also the same query relates to the existing phone line/bb internet connection/

is it simply a case of ordering the products, they connect the main one in the living room i assume and ordering additional boxes for the multiroom/router for the bb and simply connecting them to the existing system/

I am all rather confused and cant make head nor tail of who to ask without getting into trouble or worse getting my parents into trouble.

You won't get anyone into trouble, UPC/NTL today don't care how many connection points there are around the house, all they care about is the number of digital boxes.

However if you have no digital boxes at present then you must be getting the analog channels so you're paying the basic NTL monthly charge as an analog subscriber. If you are currently splitting that signal into multiple rooms then you probably have good quality wiring so it's possible that you could put a digital box in each room and get the full set of digital channels without requiring a booster.

You will definitely need someone to call to your house to setup a digital box since they will want to make sure that the signal coming into your house is good for digital. After that you can do the setup yourself for the multiroom (non-recording) digital decoders, as you say they now cost 5 p.m. each.

If you're lucky on the day they call to do the install, they might even replace all of the wall boxes with new UPC TV/FM units. I have three points in my house and even though I only ordered one Digital+ box, the Polish lads (independent contractors in a plain van) swapped out the old Cablelink boxes for shiny new UPC ones on all three points.
