Satellite Signal Q

Do trees have a major effect on Satellite signals? I've 2 big ones right in front of my house, they are South / South East of me and I believe that is the direction that any dish would have to point to. These are big trees, no more than 30 feet or so in front of me which towers over the house.

Second question, has anyone used an alternative to the traditional dish? If so is the reception quality the same etc. I've seen some on-line that might 'blend in' better if I could get a signal, but they all seem non-Irish based

It would be great to have an alternative to NTL.

Yes they will block or interfere if they are in the direct line between the dish and the satellite.

Is it possible to mount the dish in/on the tree? It doesn't have to be high up, just have a line of sight to the satellite.

There is no reason why they shouldn't work. Your best bet is to check out online reviews. Planning restrictions in the UK can be very restrictive and a range of innovative solutions have been developed for that market.
(I have used alternatives to the "traditional dish". However, not anything inexpensive, or readily repeatable.)

No chance, it would have to be the far side of the trees, then its trespass..

What kind of angle does the dish need to be? If its 80-90 degrees I'm ok, anything more shallow and it hits the trees. Looking out at them now, they are nearly hanging in to my property (and they have a roadway to cross before that). Looking at other dishes on my road, they all seemed to be angled at 'normal' levels say less that 45 degrees
