Banging noises!

I live near a field which seems to rotate what it grows during the year.

Up until now, during the spring there would be banging noises (like gunshots) which I presume is to scare off birds and keep them away from the seeds. However, this year these banging noises have continued during December and January.

From what I can work out, there is cauliflower or something similar growing in the field at the moment.

Just wondering what the banging noises achieve when there's no seed down? Would birds be picking at cauliflower?

I don't know the farmer, so can't ask him.

ya pigeons especially go mad for cauliflower, broccoli etc so thats why he still has the "banger" going.

I presume its on a timer and not going off during the night?
