What do ye make of this?Would be very handy for heavier classics.
Would you like to cure this without changing the steering characteristics of the car? We can now offer you a solution: An EZ Electric Power Steering system that is completely hidden underneath the dashboard.
The existing steering rack or box remains unchanged and thus retains the standard steering ratio and setup. The amount of assistance is fully adjustable and is speed / load sensitive. When we install the EZ system we use CNC laser cut bespoke brackets designed to fit the original mounting points of your car. As no holes are drilled, no cutting or welding to the chassis or body the car can always be converted back to its original system. Under the bonnet there are no changes, everthing remains as original. The advantages of an electrical system opposed to a hydraulic system are numerous. The electric motor only uses power when steering assistance is necessary whilst a hydraulic pump is continously operating when the engine is running. A hydraulic setup generally uses around 4 horsepower and therefore consumes extra fuel consumption even when driving straight ahead.
Because the electric Power steering system is truly speed sensitive it will steer light at low speeds and not become lighter at high speed. The amount of assistance can be selected by turning a potentiometer, the driver can select the desired feel (i.e. more assistance with wider tires and/or smalller steering wheel. With a hydraulic system there is usually little feel and no possibility to adjust this at all.
In the unlikely event that the electric power steering system has a defect the car would steer exactly like it did prior to power steering conversion. If a car fitted with an hydraulic system would have a fault the car would steer extremely heavy.
The EZ electric power steering works without making a sound, It can not leak and is completely maintenance free. When will you turn around with an EZ Power Steering conversion?

The fact the original box or rack stays unchanged would seem to be a good idea for originality buffs.

I'm sort of missing the words "type" and "approval" ...steer your classic into a crowd of people with this installed and your insurance (and the gardai) will go looking for those words too

Motorsport folks have been fitting Corsa sourced electric power steering to all manner of vehicles for several years, I assume this is a similar but generic system.

Don't think so. The system is a piggy-back, parallel system, and your direct (aka original, mechanical) steering is unaffected.

...as for TA, I'd throw in......your recently imported, rust-free from Sunny SoCal or South Africa classic won't have it. Nor your LHD whatever. Nor, come to think of it, a whole bunch of pre-TA classics.

I don't see TA for braking upgrades for older stuff, either, but they make a contribution to safety....

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
