Will anyone here be taking part this year? I signed up last night, can't wait :D

    Fair play Elpron,

You record an album in a month? What's the prize if you win?

No prize, just the fun of taking part/the satisfaction of finishing an album. Seems like a really cool idea, I think. I love the idea of so many people all over the world making an album at the same time for the same reasons. Actually, I thinking having a 'winner' or any prizes would cheapen it a little.

Did it last year, don't know if I will this year. Got other things going on but I might give it a go anyway.

    Interesting.

So what happens to all the albums that get sent in?
    Any issues with copyright?

"You do [own the rights]. Your music is your own, to do with as you please. Artists retain all rights to their music, we ask only to be able to put the finished music up in the RPM Jukebox to stream so that everyone can enjoy it."

I guess all the albums get listened to and put on the Jukebox dealy.

Very good, a bit of exposure does no harm.

I can't see anyone doing this for exposure, it's just a bit of fun. Gonna take part yourself? :)

Theres also FAWM, which is the one I did last year. Just a little more ambitious, 14 songs instead of ten.

I couldn't do that many songs in six months to be honest. Maybe I'll wow them in next years event:D

14 songs in 28 days? That's some rate of production. You'd have to be doing it 24 7.

I'd be into week 3 and still agonizing over the high hat sound on my first song:D

Part of the appeal of challenges like this and FAWM are that you can't afford to spend too much time on things like that. I'd spend time redoing things a million times, but with this, I have to leave the perfectionist in me behind. I'm looking forward to see how it ends up :)

Also, the RPM album doesn't necessarily have to be ten songs. As few songs as you like, as long as they all ad up to 35 minutes.

Does February have some sort of special significance to it?

It being twenty eight days certainly helps with the maths on the FAWM one. I imagine its also a good month because people get over the hump of January and actually feel like doing things again.

14 songs is tough but as was said, you don't worry too much about the details. I did it with just vocals and acoustic guitar though so I had an aim in mind. I was still critical and only counted the decent ones. So I only got 11 or 12 after. Its a good idea to set yourself an extra limitation or two, helps the focus.

I think I'll do it again this year, its a good personal challenge. Not like you ever have to show anyone the songs!

We're going to do this... as much to force some discipline on ourselves as anything else (we may not even register, but have already drawn up a plan to complete the 10 tracks & post them on our website by end of Feb). if anybody's interested, we'll post up a link here when we're done.

Now I've said it in public, we'll have to do it...

    Join the gang.

Maybe this is the kind of discipline a person needs.

2 days per song then move along (good lyrics)

If anything sounds half decent I could always go back and give it the six month treatment;)

Who else is signing up for this? Be great to hear what everybody else is up to!..

    I'm sorely, sorely tempted.

One of my "things to do before I die" things is to hold my album in my hands. I get the feeling that if I don't do a project like this then all I'll have is a rake of half-finished, over-polished crap.

I've yet to throw my hat in the ring though, I'm not sure if I have the guts! :P:D
