Tekken the Movie trailer

This is one I've been looking forward to for awhile and I have to say that the trailer does bode well. It's not high art but it certainly looks entertaining. The casting of Luke Goss is always a plus in my books and with an array of great martial arts practitioners in the cast this could be the first great game to movie adaptation.

I hope Jack is in it. He's what makes Tekken for me. Looks ok but I hope the story is a strong one. Fight scenes look ok and Yoshimitsu (sp?) looks quite impressive.

Who was the character that wore white and kicked a lot? He used be my favourite. Jin looks like a bit of a pussy in that tbh.

Lee or Law or Baek Doo San ?

I didnt see King in the trailer there for it fails. No Jack either.

I'm hoping they'll be in it otherwise it just won't be the same for die hard fans of the series.

They look like they've got Raven in there.... or as I call him, Wesley Snipes.

My mate used to always pick him and used the same fcuking move over and over again.

O,O,O,O - Performed a kick combo. Pretty cool looking so that actor better be studying up.

Street fighter is enjoyable on an ironic level, this is going to be worse then dead or alive and it wont even have jiggling tits.

    Shang Tsung in Tekken! :P

But seriously, looks pretty poor to be honest. ****ty dialogue, which is one thing that seems to haunt video game adaptations, in bucketloads here it seems.

That wasn't a review it was a prediction based on the evidence at hand:
    The bad trailers
The terrible actors and crew involved
The success of game to film in general.
If I'm wrong I will eat my words. That's not likely to happen though.

Hey, that's your opinion and you're entitled to them my man.

Looks like some effort's gone into it... visually... but that dialogue doesn't bode well.

I think that's what's making me "meh" on the Prince of Persia movie aswell.

Just checked the cast list and where the hell is Paul Phoenix???

Hes one of the main characters and they leave him out? King too ? Lei Wulong ?

Still glad they are making it though, Tekken was my fav beat em up :)

    Only played 1-3 really though..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,354 ✭✭✭smellslikeshoes

Was really hoping this was going to be good as I've always been a big Tekken fan but that trailer doesn't make me too confident.

Haha, people saying this looks pretty savage :D:D

Never played Tekken games apart from a few button bashing episodes when around at friends, trailer doesn't look that bad though, better than DOA which doesnt say much really!

Probably will be a renter I'd say.

Fight scenes look well choreographed. That's what I want from a movie based on Tekken. Scripting? Dialogue? Meh.
Look at Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter (animé). Crap storylines, but cool fights. That's all you need.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 103 ✭✭Raging Bob

That's all you need it seems. But the fights don't even look that good so that's why I'm laughing. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect there to be any great storyline but still, come on, would you really waste your money going to check this out?

I actually thought the opposite. The choreography looked pretty sub par from the trailer, though the trailer tries very hard to cover it.

but thats just my own opinion.

Also If Optimum are releasing it does that mean its straight to dvd?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

I know that some people are saying that the dialogue may not seem the best but to be fair there wasn't a lot of talking in the games. As long as the fight scenes are good then that's all that matters to me.

If they were making say a Mass Effect movie, then the dialogue would have to be top drawer.

Hmm.. I really hope this movie is good, but From the trailer i just don't think im gonna like it. Disappointed they left out the likes of Paul Phoenix and King. :(

Wouldn't mind getting to see some extended coverage of a fight scene before commiting to it. That said I ahve one of those cineworld cards now so there's a good chance I'll check it out regardless.

It's going straight to DVD on the 22nd of April. I preordered the Blu Ray for 14 euro last night.

Straight to DVD? No sneaky cineworld card usage for me

Pretty savage and straight to dvd :D

Straight to DVD? That's a bit weird. It looks like a film that should be out in the cinema.

I thought so too. It looks high production values wise and is a big franchise. You'd think it would get to the cinema. \\maybe distributors wouldn't touch it after the Dead Or Alive movie.

Rather disappointing because I don't think I'll even purchase this when it comes out. I'd spend 8 euro to see it but I'm not sure if I'd be willing to pay 20 odd euro to own it.

Annoying as I was actually looking forward to seeing what it would be like.

Straight to DVD no longer has the stigma which used to to be attached to it. Some of the best films available are going straight to DVD. Look at the film Ninja, garnering far superior reviews than Nicolina Assassin yet it was made to go straight to DVD. One of last years best horror films the Burrowers was another straight to DVD affair which managed to surpass nearly every horror film released theatrically.

I'm sorry but this looks dire. I'll not be going out of my way to watch this...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,283 ✭✭✭Glico Man

Not sure about this if I'm honest. Big fan of the games but...

I mean, after the diabolical versions of Street Fighter, Dead or Alive and Mortal Kombat?

It's a genre that shouldn't be touched on

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa from Mortal Kombat is in this also i think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,724 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I'm surprised at some of the characters they've included. Picking Miguel yet not having Paul? Having Craig Marduk but not King? Seems very strange. Being a Tekken fan, I'll definitely give this a watch, but not having some of the biggest characters in the games seems like a very odd choice.

    Really?

Also haven't seen silent hill, but I've never played the games either so wouldn't be able to judge on the transition.

But is Tekken the movie really worth a watch? ive kinda given up on Games to movie.. movies, as nobody ever does a good job unless its anime/cgi :(

I actually kinda enjoyed it. However, myself and my flatmate have a rule taht everytime a films title is mentioned in dialogue, you have to to drink. A film called Tekken, About a tournament called Tekken, Set in Tekken City and the baddies are from Tekken corporation...

...A lot of drink was taken during that film.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,936 ✭✭✭nix

Ah i see your hidden text now Mr Sneaky, but still, your not sure if your telling lies. We need a second opinion!!

If Paul and King were taken out of it though, its gotta be poop.

Luke Goss is in it though, i have a softspot for him for his performances in Blade 2 and Hellboy 2..

    EDIT:
