    Hi All

I’m On The Look Out For A New Model Passat Sport Tdi.
I Seen One Today, Think Its December 2006 And It’s A 2litre Tdi, I Noticed The i Was Red But Seen These Cars Before This Age And They Were All Silver, Would This Mean It’s A 170bhp Not The 140bhp...?

I Would Like To Hear What Others Think Of These New Passat Cars. Its Got 102k Miles In Black And Wants €10,700 For It

    Any Info Appreciated…

    Thanks

Forget about the red i, silver i, red d and i. Just check the registration cert for kw power and find out from that, too many people sticking letter on where they don't belong

I know you are talking about the 2.0 TDI but for the most recent 1.9's

    TDI 150bhp

    TDI 130bhp

    TDI 115bhp

TDI (All Silver) 90 or 100 bhp

Apparently there is a problem with the badging and no one knows what what means.

The reason for this is that in the space of 8 or 9 years VW had 3 types of TDI engine.
The VE, the PD and the CR. So, with each generation came a different set of rules for the colours. To make matters worse they overlapped at some points.

There were VE and PD's for sale, and now PD's and CR's.

    Then some vans had TDI

Anyway, the only real way of knowing what the craic is will be checking the sticker under the carpet in the boot which displays the engines power in kw.

Back to your post, the more red the more power and I doubt the TDI is anything like 170bhp.

    EDIT:
Having said that I checked the wiki and it seems you may be right on the power outputs. The red one would be the most powerful and the all silver the least.

Rare enough here in the 2.0TDI but if it's a red I. It's more than likely the 170bhp.I have the 2.0TDI 140BHp and it's pretty lively and a nice cruiser on the motorway.Internal space is pretty good also.It seems a good price for a 2006. As usual check all paper work, service history etc.If it's an ex UK car make sure to do a full HPI check. The DMF give problems in these cars at around 100k miles. Any link to the car?

I have a 06 2.0 TDI (140) DSG Passat and as Moanin says above it's very good for motorway cruising (or if you do a lot of miles in general - I've racked up just under 70k km on mine in the past 20 months or so) and it definitely benefits from that extra .1 of a litre given it's a fair bit bigger than the last model Passat (which I also owned). There's plenty of power (especially for overtaking) there too.

Make sure the timing belt has been done at around 60k miles/100k km (and the water pump with it). Aside from that I've heard of issues with the electronic handbrake (a rather pointless "gadget" in my opinion but that said, I've had no problems) and bear in mind that servicing will be expensive enough, and that even things like changing bulbs can be awkward.

Try and get a Highline version if you can. The DSG box is fantastic incidentially so if you do do a lot of miles, it's worth considering. I haven't driven a 170 version but I'd say they're rare as hen's teeth given that (as Moanin also said) the 2.0 is unusual enough in this country.

Oh I also would take no note of the color of the TDI badge as (especially on the last model Passat) they seemed to be randomly applied to cars. More important is the KW rating in the engine bay to check what the true HP is. (EDIT: For what it's worth my 140 has an all silver TDI badge).

    i dont have a link

what would this car be really worth at present?

its in good condition but 102k miles

    thanks

Its worth exactly as much as you can agree to pay for it.....

Word has it that the newer model passats were less reliable than the old ones....bugs etc that have now been ironed out. If it is an early verson of the B6, then I'd pass....you'd probably get a late B5.5 with lower mileage with a lot less money...

Ask somebody with Vagcom to do a scan on it....

hi his best price is €10,400 which for a 2006 passat is expensive but its says the 170bhp cost alot more.
I would think the price more like €9500.
may just give it a miss since they do have alot of problems
