If you have 51% of the note they'll exchange it for a new one.

think you're in luck if its the half with the serial number... dunno for sure though

they'd probably just give you a tenner for it anyway

Yup, it's got the serial number. (Well there is a long number on it so i presume that's it.)

You have to post it off as far as I know. They will then exchange it for you. You didnt happen to drop it near work and leave it in the rain for a while?

once you have the majority they should give you 20 quid in the central bank

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,347 ✭✭✭Closed ac

    They'll probably give you €10.

tear a tiny strip out of every 20 you have. Tape the notes back together minus the little strips and use the strips to make a new missing half for your half 20. Tell them half of it went through a shredder.

There's no way this can fail.

Draw the other half of the note, stick it together with selotape and bring it to the bank. Inform us of the results.

Happened to me in a shop before, was buying something and they gave me a €10 note back. Me thinking it was fine went along untill I noticed about 10 minutes after,
Returned to the shop explained what happened, showed them the receipt saying I had gotten half a €10 note from them but NO they wouldn't exchange it! I was seriously p****d off about this really ruined my day because the serial number wasn't on it!

You must seek out your destiny, your one true soul mate has the other half, and when you find the note you will find true happiness!

I thought once you had 51% of the note the central bank would give you a new one?
(though they're very strict on the 51% part for obvious reasons :))

Check with central bank on dame street.

IIRC if you have both serials no problem , if you have only one then it was a six month wait in case the other half showed up

not sure what the rules are since we joined the Eurozone

I'm sure this is true, I was always told this by my father who was a publican, that the bank won't accept a single half

As long as the full serial is there you should get a replacement,
Just go to a few banks if they say no.

When a note cannot be used as tender it gets destroyed. Most banks keep dirty notes, ripped notes and notes with salotape. They are sent to the central bank to be shredded. To say you need 51% of the note is a little difficult, as how can you measure this properly? You must have a good chunk of the note, 75% or there abouts. You can simply go into the bank and ask them to exchange it for a full note.

He probably only told you that in case some chancers tried to exchange half a note while you were working there (if you worked there!)

I'd suggest strating a thread on 'Boards' and maybe somebody with the other half will come forward and you can both then cash in.
