I am planning to go to Thailand around the 24th of March for 3 weeks. I want to travel for the first 2 weeks and then go to the beaches islands for the last week. I will be flying in and out of Bangkok.

I will have about 3 grand to spend while i am there for accomidation and travel etc (with flights to and from ireland already booked). My question is how optimistic am I in thinking I can travel from Bangkok to Chaing Mai by train then travel through Loas and Cambodia before getting to the south to stay at Islands etc?

Would anybody recommend I skip Laos and fly from thailand to viatnam for a few days and then fly to cambodia instead?

Any info or help will be appreciated! It will be me and the wife (both 25)

Are you saying you are planning to go from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, then through Laos and Cambodia and get down to the islands all in two weeks?? Are you insane??! Only joking, tis probably possible mathematically but it would be horrible.

To be honest 3 weeks is just about enough for Bangkok, Chiang Mai and maybe 2/3 of the islands and that is pushing it a bit. You will spend maybe about 5 days there already just travelling on trains, factor in jet lag and then you are looking at a tight holiday.

I would skip Cambodia if anywhere really - a bit depressing it is so poor. Maybe just do Bangkok,Chiang Mai and Laos. Or else Bangkok, Cambodia and islands. Or else just keep it to Thailand and fly from Chiang Mai to islands - very cheap flights with Air Asia.

you could give a week between Bangkok and Chiang Mai and then a week in Northern Laos and then a week in the islands. A bit rushed but when your on holidays its no problem. Travelers would think its crazy but it's a different type of travel.

    My advice
Land Bangkok and fly straight to Chiang Mai. 4 days there is plenty and then a day travel to the Laos Border.
2 days travel on Slow boat in Laos to Luang Prabang. (one of my highlights) and then two days in Luang Prabang.
Bus to Vang Vieng. Tubing. You might have heard of it! If not google it. 3 days there and then on to Vientinene. 1 day is enough there.
Fly to Bangkok and then to the islands of your choice for 5 days. Then back to Bangkok for your last few days.

I dont know does this all fit together as I've just had a glass of wine but I hope it helps!!!:D
