    Hey lads! I was wondering if this is happening to anyone else. I read a little bit around the net that its just the plastic expanding from the heat but should it really happen every session I play?

    Mine does the same. Is yours a slim?
    I used to have a 60gb and never remember it doing this creaking/cracking/popping before. I would hear it up to 30 minutes after the machine is powered off.

    Yeah i have both the slim and 60gb and there is no comparison between the two.IMO the PHAT models are just put together much better.I find the noise off the slim's fan to be quite annoying.

    Do you have it in a well ventilated area ? My slim is quieter than my 40gb was...

    Yeah it's fine just sits on top of a dresser with nothing near it at all.I just think the whole thing sounds louder than 60gb,even loading the disc into the machine is louder.Anyway i don't really care that much as long as it works right?

    Yeah mine's well ventilated, sits on top of a desk. Although I find its fans to be a lot quieter than the 60gb model.

    The slot drive is louder than the 60gb model but I don't think that really matters. It only takes a second for the disc to slide in/out.

    I have the phat 80gb (CECHK03) model. Sony have given me the option to exchange it, they just want my details now but I'm worried. Is it really something worth getting a replacement for? It happens when its on but it goes away after about 20 or 30 minutes play.

    I've definitely heard this with my 60GB one (not a slim).

    I think I usually notice it after it's been turned off. Nothing to worry about.
