Damascus / Syria

I've had an itch that won't go away to visit Damascus and maybe a bit more of Syria. It looks particularly interesting. I'm thinking early April before the temperature gets too out of hand. Has anyone been in the last couple of years? Any thoughts one way or the other if you have?

Reply is probably too late but just came across it this evening..Go for it...we spent a week in Syria...travelled independently...enjoyed it..lots to see...flew with bmi...have you been to the Middle East before? Let me know if you are going or are thinking of it and I may be able to give you a few pointers..
