Anyone going to one the two nights?

I'm going tonight, not sure what to expect as I heard it's more or less an unplugged gig.

Last time I seen him was back in '93 at the RDS.

    Loved it.

The songs stripped down like that was awesome.

Cuts Like A Knife was the song of the night for me.

Nice to be a fellow Boardsie like yourself now afraid to admit they like Bryan Adams.

Could have done with less of the screaming girls though.

    Wish it was.

They wouldn't stfu roaring stuff like 'Come back to my place Bryan' and 'Robin Hood' .. *cringe*.

The atmosphere was great though. Played near two hours. His voice sounds waaay better with just an acoustic guitar and piano.

The were a good few gangs of blokes having the craic and couples too but the gangs of girls were sooooo annoying, They would be up and down to toilets every minute in twos and threes and the rows of people all having to move etc.

There was like mini mexican waves non stop.

We got there late so missed the first two songs and we waited at the back of the Circle for the song to end before nipping down and taking our seats. Why can people not sit the f**k down at gigs till there's at least a break in songs?

    The O2 is as bad.

Anyway, would go tonight again if I could.

Bryan Adams in fairness to him is great live.
He was in Pearse stadium a couple of years ago, twas a great gig.
Would love to have seen an "unplugged" session.

Tickets on Ebay for tonight but they are €80 each.

He's playing Derry, Belfast, Killarney and Castlebar also.

I'd like to see him in Vicar St with the seats out. Love gigs at Vicar St like that.

The seats in The Olympia are tiny. It's like sitting in a chair for primary school kids.

Castlebar was the only realistic place I could see him and I missed out on those tickets.
Ah well, am sure he will be back, he seems to like coming here.

Yeah it was getting annoying after a while wasn't it.......

to be honest I thought he was excellent, would love if he dropped the Robin Hood track - but that ain't gonna happen, glad he had the piano there to break things up a little, nearly two hours of just acoustic guitar and him might not have worked as well......
as you said great atmosphere and in my opinion he's sounding much better than he did years ago......wouldn't mind going tonight again, just to see if he switches anything up......

odd to be out of a gig and home not long after 10:30 though.....

Two tickets fell into my lap at the end of last week, have been in two minds over going, would have bought and loved his MTV album but wouldn't only know his hits, is that generally what he plays?

What time was he on stage at?

He was on at 8.15 ish. Very early for the main act at the Olympia, so pop along early.

He plays it all. Lots of rare tracks. He played a song he wrote for Ray Charles which was class.

I really liked his early stuff from Into The Fire and he played a few from that.

Some energy for a Vegan. In this excellent performance of Summer of '69 he runs to the stage??

    Slane gig clip:

Tickets sold out the first two days for the Olympia.

Those tickets were put out to stop touts and can never be trusted to be issued.

I don't mind TM doing that but they should tell people the time and amount so that fans can queue.

I didn't word my post too well.

I didn't mean to imply that he shouldn't sing 'Everything I do' it was that women were roaring 'Robin Hood' from the back ages after he had already played the song.

    Might be going again tonight.

I thought it was sound that he played Never Let Go for the guy who asked him from the Balcony as it's not a song he plays live. Doing the country and western voice was class too :)

there were still tickets available for castlebar on ticketmaster yesterday. and some lad on gumtree is trying to get rid of tickets for tonight at face value. last week, found tickets for last night's gig last week on toutless.com (great site - none of those greedy ebay gits).

BA was class. Got the tickets as a surprise present for my girlfriend (who's a big fan) but by end of gig, i was converted. His voice was superb - the acoustic bit really worked.

At the end, he beckoned us out of our seats and come and stand near the stage. so while a gang of us are crowded in the corridor near the stage, the steward comes along and asks us to leave a gap down the middle (of the middle). brainless.

great gig though. bryan adams has a new fan (shamed to admit).

I'm no hardcore BA Fan, I'd know his maintream hits & generally go to between 5 to 10 gigs a year at home & abroad (if funds permit!).

I cannot recommend strongly enough that you take the time to come along tonight. I was there last night & got tickets again for tonight.

He came on stage approx 8:10/15pm & belted out songs, virtually non stop for about 1hr 45 Mins. Loved the 'free form' nature of the gig - he had a huge amount of banter & interaction with the crowd. He took requests from the crowd & because of the stripped down nature of the gig, it gave him the ability to virtually decide on a whim what he wanted to play rather than be rigidly tied to a setlist (as often happens with more sophiticated sound / lighting productions used by bands).

I was a bit like VH1-Story Tellers in that the Olympia is a relatively intimate / small venue for a capital city, it was just Bryan & a fellow musician on Piano (who came & went throught the set - he wasn't there all the time). He made it feel like a really special night.

Its not often you get to see such a well known artist in such an intimate scenario / acoustic setting & if you even just like music in general (& are not a BA fan necessarily), you won't regret taking the time to come along to the gig. He got great feedback from the crowd last night - plenty of laughs to go with the music. He really nailed all the songs - super performance.

    Highly recommended.

the country version he sang mid way through the song was very good.

funny seeing someone having a laugh at/with his own songs

    plus:
    Any setlists floating about? :)

A few of us went again tonight and it was at least 50% better.

Fantastic show, hope somebody recorded some of it. I tried to capture a little but the stewards were on me like a flash. The Olympia is a nightmare for that.
    the steward

    He did the same tonight.

I was in the Circle and everyone downstairs was on their feet giving it socks and all you could see was his bald head telling everyone to sit down

Adams kept saying to the people to come up the front though.

Could have done without 'Have you ever really loved a woman' though - hate that song with a passion.

The rest was sheer class. Astonishing to be able to rock the place like that with just an acoustic Guitar and Harmonica. Great gig.

Maybe he is recording these gigs and will release a Bare Bones CD of the best of the tour.

Heat Of The Night was the standout tune tonight I thought.

Summer Of '69 the crowd just went nuts and sang ever lyric.

Been to a lot of gigs lately (Simple Minds, Madness etc) and these two shows have been head and shoulders above all others.

I am in half a mind to drive to Derry tomorrow night or Killarney for Monday.

glad Mr.Adams was rockin it again tonight.....would loved to have gone....

with regards to the stewards - I'm half and half....
it's not always the venues decision, some artists request that the use of cameras be prohibited, and they could be recording the event for resale - where they definitely don't want it to be on YouTube......
and at the end of the day the stewards are only doing their job...

but at the same time spending the night disturbing other peoples views trying to stop a few people talking photos is such a waste of time and very annoying......it's pretty senseless......they can no longer stop it with decent quality cameras on mobiles, so I don't see the point....

i can see the point in not having flashes going off every millisecond - especially during the slower numbers; could ruin the ambience. and sometimes i'm at gigs and i feel like people can't really be enjoying it if they spend the whole gig with a camera held above head height trying to keep it focussed on the artist - annoying everyone behind them (especially seated gigs where your options to move are limited. they might have been better off declaring a 'photozone' - a few minutes or a particular song or two where people could snap to their hearts' content. as it was, felt like being back in school. everyone waiting for the teacher to be on the far side of the room before misbehaving (in this case - taking a pic). that clown with the torch zipping around like some hapless father ted character ("down with that kind of thing") was a bit distracting for everyone else.

don't want this to take away from the gig though. was brilliant. just a bit more common sense in how to approach policeing the unpoliceable wouldn't have gone astray.

My 6th time to see BA live & he has got better with age. His performance was truly amazing on Thursday night. Gig of the year so far ;)

Am going to see him on Monday night in Castlebar, looking forward to it I think after reading the reviews on here. It is a present for a friend, not my first choice of artist, but I am now looking forward to the gig. Thanks guys.

    Have to agree with you.......
and to be honest I really don't know why people persist to use Flashes.....the best photos I've taken at gigs have been with the flash off....
but some common sense needs to be used, people are still taking pictures either way.........so yeah either just let it happen - or search on the way in and restrict the type of camera etc.......

hope Mr.Adams decides to come back soon with the full band......:)

Sorry, it was too poor sound to upload.

I uploaded two songs that are at least audible. I really need to get a decent phone. O have TZ7 camera for converts but Con's are fixing it.

I'm raging that I didn't have even if just for the audio. I'd love to have the the complete audio from the gig. Maybe he'll release it on CD.

There is very very little Bryan Adams live stuff on YouTube which leads me to believe that they keep a watch on it and get stuff removed very fast.

So I haven't uploaded this to my main YouTube account just in case they pull it like they did a year ago. I lost 150 or so concert stuff I had recorded (Bon Jovi in Punchestown, Springsteen in RDS etc) all because I uploaded a clip of Tommy Tiernan at Vicar St during the tour.

Anyway, brutal sound .. but here you go:

In what way was Friday better? I was at Thursdays show and while it was good I wouldn't class it as a stripped down acoustic gig. Most of the songs sounded the same but with something missing and on reflection after I think because he didn't really change the songs it was the band I missed. I love acoustic music and think that stripped down versions of Summer of 69 as an example would have sounded amazing. That aside though I'm a massive fan so of course I enjoyed the gig.

However those stewards were so ANNOYING!!! Part of gig going for me is taking photographs and I can understand flashes can annoy people but banning photos altogether is a step to far. IF this gig had being a really quiet gig I'd kinda understand. Leonard Cohen was one such gig but we could still take photos. I agree with the comment that photos come out better without flash and my camera is good enough to use without flash in most situations. That really put me in bad form and in a way ruined the night for me. The Olympia claimed it was Bryan who wanted photos stopped and we were even told before the gig that he had said if he saw anyone taking photos he would stop mid song and ask them to stop. I was watching his reaction for those lucky enough to not be near the stewards and he seemed unaffected by it. Although I was in the 2nd row I did manage to sneak 2 but they're not crystal clear as I didn't have time to focus the camera properly

As far as Friday being better, it was just a far more lively Friday night crowd. I'd it was 70% girls on Thursday and Friday it was only around 55% I'd say.

There wasn't as much things being shouted at him and people were quickly hushed when they did start yapping.

    Both nights were class.

Sounds like I would have enjoyed Fri much more then. In regards youtube removing videos I don't know what is going on there as videos Leonard Cohens gig in the o2 are still there as I've just checked. I was told the issues are regards taking photos or videos at an indoor venue are something to do with copyright but surely then all indoor material would be removed?

It's all down to the artist.

You could upload Springsteen gigs all year long and not a problem.

You upload some artist on the same Label and you get banned,

Tommy Tiernan's and Billy Connolly's production companies watch YouTube like a hawk.

They threaten YouTube with legal action if your account is not closed.

So Bryan doesn't like videos or photographs being taken of himself. Coming by someone who is big into photogaphy that is hypocritical! Thank God Brucie isn't like that. Someone took the most amazing videos of his gig last July and they are still on Youtube. Do you get banned outright or are the videos first deleted and a warning given?

Excellent stuff! Hope he comes back this year! I saw him at once 2008, once 2009 but next time plan on going to every gig he plays here. The great thing about him is he changes the setlist every night. I remember seeing Bryan in The Point in 2005 and 2007 and the setlists were identical. As I'd seen him in Galway in 2006 with a different setlist I didn't notice 'til he actually announced it midway through the gig!

He's not being hypocritical - he's a professional photographer, if you are then you'd seek permission to take pics at the gig.......at the end of the day it's the Artists choice (although a lot of the time it tends to be a misscommunication from the artists camp and the venue is then bound to do what they can to comply) take the recent WASP gig in the Button Factory.........
If you were the artist and you wanted to record and later release a gig on DVD or CD you would not want that gig to be already available on YouTube, it's as simple as that.......and I've no problem with that, but if that is the case then surely the Olympia Staff should only warn people once about using cameras - they seemed to be going to the same people over and over again - which defeats the purpose of going over at all...

As much as I like taking photos/vids of gigs I go to as nice memories or to share with a couple of friends that couldn't make it along, I'd like to think that I'd respect the wishes of whatever artist and I don't think it would take anything away from a gig.....

Of course I can fully understand acts who are recording not wanting stuff to appear on youtube first and that is quite right. I don't actually record at concerts but I confess I do enjoy watching others videos after. Photos are different though and I personally feel once someone is taking photos without flash they should be left alone unless it really is one of those intimate gigs and then fair enough. Having being at several BA concerts before and photos never being an issue I was just shocked and disappointed by what happened. However I have been lucky enough to have had some concert reviews I did published and I'm hoping that somewhere along the line I can include photography in this and hopefully obtain a press pass where I can snap to my hearts content. In fairness though to The Olympia they had numerous signs about photographs on the night both outside and inside the venue.

Yep, I'm with you there......if only others could get to the point where they turn the Flash off.....they don't seem to care that it's annoying for others too....

best of luck with the reviews & wouldn't a press pass be great ;-)
it's something I've considered, but just don't think I would be able to write reviews from an unbiased/outside viewpoint......

    P.S.
    just sent you a PM

I'd die and go to heaven if I had a press pass. It would mean I could finally get a professional camera and never have to worry about whether or not I'd be allowed to take photos PLUS FREE into gigs!!!! I can keep dreaming and hoping! Yeah reviewing can be difficult as I do tend now to be more objective at gigs and this can take away a bit of the enjoyment. I'm still working on my BA one. However I love music and I love writting so I'll continue to slave away in the hope I someday get proper recognition and a coveted press pass.:)
