Ryder Cup Europe’s first Symposium, designed to reconfirm the bidding criteria for the 2018 Ryder Cup, was hailed a success after delegates from the six nations seeking to host the 2018 Ryder Cup gathered in London.

Representatives from France, Germany, Holland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden assembled at the Sheraton Heathrow Hotel on the outskirts of London today for the Symposium to listen to presentations outlining the bid requirements.

Richard Hills said: “It speaks volumes for the global interest in The Ryder Cup that we have six nations eager to host The 2018 match.

Today’s Symposium has been an enormously successful exercise for Ryder Cup Europe and these six nations who have expressed a deep desire to stage the second Ryder Cup on Continental Europe.

The deadline for the submission of bids has been set for April 30, 2010, and the Host Nation of the 42nd edition of the biennial contest between Europe and the United States, started in 1927, will be announced in 2011

I think Sweden or Germany should get it. Moreso Sweden i'd say, the sheer volume of Scandenavian golfers playing at a high level is amazing

+1 however another way to look at it would be that if you bring it somewhere golf isnt that big (say Holland) you are expanding the game.

Pretty much anywhere in mainland Europe is as easy to get to as the next place...

You do also need to have a good course though!

Sweden would be a good choice but IMO it should be held at the course which holds the French open at present. Serious finishing holes with great viewing spots for fans.

I would like Sweden to get it but agree with you guys that to expand the game giving it to another country would do it no harm either.

France would be great choice as would Portugal.

Just one thing and i know it would be hard to arrange with fixture list etc. But, what do you think of Ryder Cup being played late September? Personally its not so bad for States or south Europe like Spain but I like it to be pushed forward to end August maybe for European version anyway.

What do you think? Now it does not guarantee there be sunshine weather but think it be bit warmer and easier for people to travel then etc and maybe gives countries like Sweden a more favourable place to travel for competition if they did get nominated for 2018.

    What your taughts?

Yeah I'd agree, Paris National would be a great venue.

it will be interesting where it goes alright as par Spain it will be held for the first time in one of those countrie. i think Holland could be dark horses. A company run by a group of professionals from Scotland i think are developing a massive golf complex outside of Amsterdam, 2 golf courses, national golf centre etc. Montgomerie is designing one of the courses, the Dutch its called Should be open 2011/2012. Wouldn't be surprised if this is would be behind their bid, it will have all infastructure etc for it. Personally i would love to see Portugal get it, it has some fantastic courses and weather would be great for that time of year.
