Actually saw this on TV, Cottonelle is running a great toilet paper debate.

I was shocked to find that Under is the Minority  You people make me sick. I've always found Under gives less tearing. And all the public rolls are almost always Under, too.

[Yes Flutt - I realize what I just did. I started a Toilet Thread. Enjoy the Ironing]

By using the under method you lose to much control for the amount of paper you want to use!!

    I'm sorry if you don't like it........but that's the way I roll.

Neither, I leave it on top of the cistern as the actual roll holder is miles away from the pot.

Tell me about it, its really close to the ground as well so if any of it touches the ground and the floor gets wet it creeps up through it and soaks the whole roll :(

lol, reminds me of Hurricane Neddy:

Ned: Uh, was that toilet always next to the refrigerator?
Chief Wiggum: Uh, Ned, you ever try lugging a toilet up a flight of stairs?

Delighted for you.. away you go ..has been done before, but you have my full permission to rattle away....I'll wait till the tone lowers a bit before contributing as it seems a bit highbrow for me at this stage.

Well done and I'm proud of you.

    dock!!

    Great debate!!

Had often thought on this myself, and like the OP, noticed that most public places went with under. In one place I used to use, 'under' was way better as the roll was down low and if it was 'over' the roll would unravel too much when pulling on the paper. In my own place i'm using 'over' as it looks better!!:)

I'm an over man meself.. Feckin hate it when one sheet ends up longer than the second sheet in the roll. Pain in the ass (pun intended)

    That's the same as me.

I remember reading somewhere, can't for the life of me remember where, that people who put the toilet roll under are worse socially than those who put it over. They're more within themselves and hide away from others, which is kind of mimicked in the toilet roll. By putting it under, you're hiding the end beneath the roll.

I have no idea. Can someone define the terms 'over' and 'under' in the context of this debate.

    Here you go Mossy Monk,

First Pic is the Over and the 2nd is under.

I do neither. It sits on the window sill.

'Toilet paper...If handled with clumsy ignorance, or worse, carelessness, it will beset the user with pain, filth, and frustration. Don’t let it end this way, with you curled on the tile floor of the stall, weeping in frustration, covered in wasted papier de toilette'

Where's the option for surreptitious use of dark hand-towel?

I think in hotels and stuff that they do it over is because it uses less paper for some weird reason. You will usually yank an extra sheet if its under whereas if its over there is precision pulling!

I voted on that site and it somehow managed to vote on this thread for me too? Is that possible?
