Do you really need videos analysis or would good coaching in a low coach:athlete ratio be better?

I'd venture a guess that a coach on the pool deck would be much more benefical. A coach won't need video analysis to correct your stroke.

I've had it done a few times but as part of a long term approach with a good swim coach. It's nice to see what they see though.

These guys do it if you sign up for one of their expensive weekend courses http://www.swimfortri.co.uk/

I could do with the name of a decent coach to help my atrocious swimming in prep for my first IM so if you know of one can you send me details? I can't swim with a schedueled group session due to work committments so one on one sessions with a coach would suit me.

I know a few people who attended the swimfortri course previously - they're of varying strengths as swimmers but everyone of them thought it was money well spent. They ALL reckoned that if they were starting again it would be the one to do. They found the video analysis good and informative but its not the be all and end all of that coached weekend. Dan Bullock who runs the course can back every bit of advice up when he swims - not all swimmers make good coaches but from the informed opinions I heard following this course - he may very well be the exception.

I have nothing to do with the company for the record. If you're lucky enough to get a good swim coach for one on one then Im sure its an alternative but when starting out it can be a bit of a mine field picking one.

It's alot like lab testing, completely pointless for most people but something that everyone wants to do.

re: video analysis of stroke - Id tend to agree - in 12 years of competitive swimming I had ... one .. thats about 15 seconds of stroke analysis done.

Alot of triathlon clubs have swimming sessions where sometimes one or more lanes are aimed at complete beginners and/or improvers with someone with formal swim teaching or coaching qualifications looking over the swimmers. This might be another cost effective approach to consider.
