Hey just trying to figure out how many slates I would need to roof my house. Its 3,200 sq/ft and has hipped roof. Also conservatory with hip roof. Just curious with regards budgeting.

Also if anyone has any indication of what it would cost to roof such a house direct labour including the timber work, felt etc it would be great

It will vary depending on the size of the slates, recommended headlap etc.

From your plans you sould easily be able to work out your roof area. (Not the same as the floor area!) If you are looking at a particular slate, generally the brochure will give you a figure for the number of slates to cover a sq. metre based on a particular headlap.

The labour will depend to some extent on the number of slates to be fitted and also whether they are natural, graded or ungraded, or artificial.

Tegral will give you all the answers you need regarding number of slates.
You need to pick your product, know your roof angle, areas and exposure and away you go!
Then talk to your roofers re cost per slate for fixing.
PS, make sure you get a spec to work with from Tegral (or other supplier) re headlap etc, and specify the correct non-ferrous fixings. Way too many roofers in this country still using galv fixings on roofs contrary to the codes.

Ok cheers for the feeback but roughly how many slates would you use on a house on 3200 sq/ft. ball park. And just curious about complete roofing costs, would it be in and around 30,000 or as high as 50,000 if you went with something like standard Thrutone Plus. 30 degree pitch, hipped roof, house rectangular.

    3200 sq/ft on plan with a 30° pitch = approx 4700no 600x300 slates

As stated, send your plans to Tegral for a full list of quantities down to the last copper crampion !

We really don't have enough info.
The floor area means little, as depending on the width to length ratio, roof area might change.

Just fire off an email to tegral, you don't have to pick them in the end.

give your plans to any good roofer he will give you a cutting list for the roof which will include all materials, and from the plans he will see how many slates you need, you could also without the help of any trade email your plans to a truss company, their draughtmens will give you detailed drawings and price for trusses only or complete package i.e. laths valley boards, gable ladders etc.........
