I am really intro travelling but unfortunately my mates are about as adventurous as corpses. this really puts a damper on my plans to go and see what the world has to offer. I've my holidays for 2010 booked but I came across an adventure i really wanna go on in 2011, its the Transsiberian Express from Russia to Vladivostok(1 week journey) and a 2 night ferry trip to Japan then home, but alas nobody to go with. Anybody out there any advice or similar problems that they know what might work.

Can I ask which website you found this trip. I'm looking into doing it at some stage and like reading about it!

You'll meet people along the way Big Steve, there is a chance you may really not get on with your travel partner.
You should try travelling alone, its honestly not bad and you'll probably meet some great people.

I've no problem going on me but I'd be worried about singled out as a tourist a 6'3" red head doesn't scream Russian if you know what I mean. lol

haha they will be scared of you mate, there are plenty of red haired russians. Looks how close to the Nordic countries they are, home of the Vikings.
There will be shed loads of backpackers doing that route, (probably not what you want to hear!)

I don't mind the fact that there will be other back packers. I'm doing it for me not for them. I wanna do something that not many people do over here and something that I can look at and say well at least I did it. I wanna hit south america in a couple of years too. Argentina or Mexico.

I went on my own with a group tour from St Petersburg to Beijing, it was brilliant, there was a few of us in the group so I didn't have to worry about being on my own. We didn't meet any backpackers on the train the whole time we did it in Russia so I don't know if that will be the same for you. Maybe in a Moscow hostel would be a good place to meet some travel companions for the transiberian trip?

Try not to spend more than two days in a single stretch on the train, try and break up your journey as much as you can.

Russians aren't the friendliest people so be prepared for that!

Eh...no it's not. Third time lucky people, where is Mexico??

About Russia - would really really suggest learning some Russian, especially as you have a year. Even just learn the alphabet as a lot of words like 'restaurant' and 'toilet' are similar, but you won't know the sign says if you can't read the alphabet.

Might be easier to get a travel buddy a bit closer to the date. Lonely planet have an alright Travel Buddy section.

I only know because I studied trade agreements and they're always in the North American ones. :)
