    Hi Folks,

I recently took delivery of two expensive items from an eBayer in America. One was damaged when it arrived (manaufactering fault) so as a result the seller has agreed to replace the units and pay for the return shipping.

Now, the units arrived by Fedex but to Fedex them back will cost almost €220 which I cannot afford to do (And to be fair to the seller they only cost $125 to send) The total weight is 12kg. I've looked on An Post but the insurance only goes up to €150 in most cases. These units are worth about €560 all in and I'll be declaring them as such.

Do An Post offer insurance up to €560?

    Many Thanks.

I think An Post's insurance only covers up to €150, and I'm not even sure if it applies to an international delivery.

I sent a sterling draft to UK recently and was told the max insured value on registered mail was eur320. Maybe you could get complete cover if you sent them separately ?

    Just to add to this.
It's 320 to Ireland / UK, 150 within Europe and 100 for outside Europe.

Yes but only when posted within Ireland. Up to 2k afaik.

Thanks for all the replies folks.

Its very worrying as they are genuinely worth €560+. Also from reading the small print they will pay out up to a maximum of €150 (So the value of the item doesn't actually matter)

I'd go with UPS or Fedex if they weren't three times the price of An Post.

To be honest it's the seller that should be worried. The seller should have taken out insurance seeing as they were expensive items.

The seller have their money (They are a large firm) and frankly shouldn't really care. If they get lost all the better as it would be me at fault.

They have offered to pay the shipping and hopefully being Fedex Account holders they'll get a business rate, thus I'll be off the hook.

You are been too nice :)

The item you buy has to be delivered to you as described. They should have taken it out insurance. Simple as. It's different if you change your mind about the purchase and you want to refund it. Then it's down to you to pay the return shipping.
But if the item is not working or damaged then the onus is on the seller.
