Question regarding Illness Benefit

I have been working in the same position for the past 7 years and last week I was signed off work by my doctor and I have applied for illness benefit. My question is would being on Illness Benefit affect your redundancy entitlements?

Hi - I assume you're referring to Statutory redundancy?

I wouldn't have thought so but check out www.citizensinformation.ie

Seem to remember after 13 weeks continuous illness, a meeting can take place to see if you will ever be able to continue doing your job.

If the result is negative your employer could just let you go as apposed to make you redundant.

I would get clarification from your union as mistakes not could be deemed a break in service which could seriously reduce any redundancy you might get.
