Sold my car to UK buyer. Export declaration

    Hi,

I have sold my car to a buyer from the UK. I had a look at the back of the VLC and it does not have any section on it to let you tell Shannon that the car is being exported. In any case, I will need to give the buyer the VLC so that he can register the car in the UK so I could not send this off anyway.

Does anyone know what the procedure is in this case? Are there any specific forms I need to get to remove the car from my name?

    Thanks,
    Richard

Suppose you have to ring Shannon or the tax office. I'd be wary to leave the VLC to the buyer, who can keep driving it in your name indefinitely over there.

How about you register the buy and simply give his name address etc in the UK? Shannon then send details to him in the UK. Or use your own address and once it's sent back to him at your address you can pass it on to UK.
But now the car is in his name.

No, not at all. I was expecting someone to ask that! :-)

Genuine buyer, Irish guy that lives in the UK. It's a low value car so the difference between here and the UK is minimal.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THE MAIN STICKY ON THE MOTORS FORUM ABOUT SCAMS ON CARZONE!!!

(sorry to shout but why would buyers outside Ireland buy and Irish car with its over-inflated price due to VRT????)

Yes, I know all about the scams that are out there. I have priced the car very low just to move it on so it is pretty much the same as what it would cost in the UK.

I had the advert listed on a UK owners website, aimed really at any Irish buyers that may be interested and this guy got in touch as he is in Ireland for a week. It's an immaculate example of the model with low mileage and genuine history with all major work done on it which is why it has appealed to him. I have actually had a few UK based people interested from that very forum.

So I am satisfied that he is genuine. Either way, the car won't be handed over until silver has crossed my palm in the form of hard cash.

Anyway, I just rang Shannon and they said all I need to do is send a photocopy of the VLC to them with a letter stating that the car has been exported on a particular date and they will log it on the system. I was expecting a more rigorous prodecure to be honest but it's all straightforward it seems.

We'll see in a few months if I keep getting tax renewal reminders for it! :-)
