Put simply, for those who have gone before us, how much have your trips cost? I'm leaving it deliberately vague because I want to hear about people's broad experience whilst simultaneously getting the cold hard facts of where you went and how much dosh it cost you.

It's funny, I know prices change of course, but it's hard to actually find even a vague outline of how much it would cost to hit the major cities in America or Europe by inter-rail or bus and sleeping in hostels.

I have spent anything from over 2 grand in the US in 3 weeks to less than a grand for a month. It depends where you go and what you are doing. I spend less when i visit family there as i used to live there and stay for free. Accommodation can be expensive as hostels only really exisit in a handful of big cities and they aren't cheap. And of course big cities are the most expensive places for most things. Doing all the tourist things, eating out, accommodation and going out will cost you over 100 dollars a day. So if you do that everyday day you will spend over 100 dollars a day.

To give you an example. When i go to Latino America or Asia i spend roughly 1000 Euro a month. These places are way cheaper than the US or Europe. So possibly add a couple of hundred extra to that.
