Hopefully can help me with this. I'm thinking of getting VHI. I believe that you can have it sorted so that they take the money out of your salary every fortnight. Someone told me that you have to go through Cornmarket - is this true or can I just get it off VHI directly? Also, is it true that for ASTI members you can get 10% off? Does anyone know how you can claim tax relief for the payments as well? Thanks

I rang up VHI when I was renewing my policy and I told them I wanted to go in the teachers group scheme. I think she asked me for my payroll number, and possibly my ASTI number but I'm not sure. She then passed my details to the DES so that the money could be deducted from my salary. As far as I'm aware. the insurance year for the policy starts in March so if you do not sign up in March they adjust the price accordingly and then you start a full year the following March if you choose to renew.

    I'm fairly certain it's 10%.

And I'm definitely not sure about this but I asked my boyfriend about the tax thing and he thinks the tax relief is applied at source. VHI should be able to confirm or deny this.

If you wanted to get it now it would probably be quite cheap to cover you until March. Might be something to think about.
