BMI Flight time change - can I cancel?

I'm flying home from New Zealand for a trip in March. I've got flights from NZ to London and then booked my own flight from Heathrow to Dublin.

I've just had an email from BMI to say they're changing the time of my flight by two hours. Luckily, they're chaning it to two hours later, not two hours earlier but by that stage, I'll have been travelling for nearly two days and will just want to get home.

Am I entitled to cancel the flight and get my money back? Aer Lingus have a flight at the same time as my original bmi one and it's e30 cheaper too! The bmi call centre closes at 8pm, plus I don't think the number works from NZ so I can't get in touch with them and I'd like to book the Aer Lingus flights today while they are so cheap.

Has anyone any experience with this? Obviously, my flights home are quite expensive so I'm not really in a position to just buy the Aer Lingus one as well. According to their website there is a 25 pound refund fee and only if you have a refundable ticket. As bmi changed the time of the flight am I entitled to cancel with a full refund?

I'm pretty sure you can get a refund if the schedule change doesn't work for you.

Use the +44 1332 64 8181 number to try get through on from NZ

isn't there a link in the email asking you to confirm or reject the change?

Because a) they gave you lots of notice and b) the time change is only two hours, I don't think you are entitled to a refund. BMI may offer one as a sign of goodwill.

This is covered by the same regluations as for denied boarding and delays.

Buffybot, thank you for providing the Uk number. I've just called it and BMI are giving me a full refund for the flight as the new time does not suit me. I didn't even need to discuss it with them. They offered it straight away. I booked the cheaper flight with Aer Lingus now so no extra 2 hour wait in Heathrow for me and I saved a bit of money.

Nowhere on the email from BMI did it say you could decline the updated itinerary. There was only a button to accept it. It said nothing on the email or the website (as far as I can find) that tells you that they let you cancel the flights and get a full refund if BMI change the flight time. Sneaky, but I'm glad I rang them!

It's been a while since I had one of those emails, the old memory must be fading!

or they've changed it to catch you out! I've definitely had emails from other airlines where you could decline the change.
