We have lost our sky signal in the last half hour (Mayo/Roscommon border ) it is snowing and very windy . The dish is still in place :). Anyone else having trouble - or is it just me?

I'm in Dublin 14 where we've had recent snow and it's very windy. Signal gone for the last 15 minutes.

Yep Dublin 14, just checked the dish covered in sleet, must have been the angle it fell in the wind.

No way the signel is getting recived when the dish is covered like that.

We will have to wait for it to melt / clear in the wind.

    What a load of *******

Gone here too, you don't even need to have snow on the dish - heavy precipitation will reduce your signal strength substantially, you'll just have to wait it out.

Same here - D16. First time I've ever lost the signal due to the weather..

More annoying is that you can't even watch recorded tv when there's no signal.

Alot of customers have had the same problem. If you can not access the dish, use a hose and place your finger over the nozzle to cause a gentle spray. ( If the hose / spray reaches ) let it fall gently onto the dish and lnb, like a light rain. This did it for alot of people over the last few weeks.

Do it at your own peril though. I can't take responsibility of you do it and go ar$e up on icy ground, or if you spray it so hard you upset the dish or lnb. Or if water lands somewhere and causes an ice patch and someone else goes ar$e up.

Just letting you know what has worked for some is all :)

Just got mine back by sweeping the snow from dish & LNB.

Just after goin out to clean my dish with a flash lamp and a big pair of gloves. It's nasty out there. Luckily my dish is semi permanently mounted at only about a foot off the ground and the snow is only at about 9 inches

Just back from my Dads, his satellite was gone. I was able to throw some warm water on it from a nearby window and it got it running again fine. This week he has been without heating, telephone, water, electricity and finally satellite. All back working now bar the telephone. Some people have all the luck:rolleyes:

Be careful going at the dish with brushes, if you knock it off line it will cause bigger problems.

Mine has gone too, no signal to either box. Have been onto sky and done all the usual resets, LNB reset, health checks etc, still nothing. They want 60 euro for a callout. Is it worth going up to have a look at the dish or should i opt for the engineer? will i be able to tell if its the LNB or alignment.

    X.

Yep mine is gone as well in D16, I wanted to watch the repeat of Ross Kemp in Israel, damn it!!

    Gone here in D16 too.

Never had a "weather-related" issue in nearly 10 years with Sky, why it suddenly happens tonight...

No snow here, went during the storm. The signal and quality are nil, not registering anyting, its also says not locked.

Try rebooting your Sky box. If that fails then your dish needs to be realligned.

Most of my channels are back up today - but signal qaulity is showing as very low. A few channels not working.

Is there any way of telling if the LNB has gone? or if its just an alignment issue.

I can hear the programmes, but the picture is completely pixellated. Doesnt seem to be any visible snow on the dish or lnb, cant get access to it to check properly.
Is it possible for moisture to get into the connections, would that cause signal problems?

    Reboot worked. ;)

The strength/quality levels on my boxes have always been fairly low but with the recent bad weather many of the channels are skipping/pixelating pretty badly.

The independent guy I got out about 2 months back to run a 2nd cable to my Sky+ box said that this is because Sky should have put an extra bracket on the wall to improve the reception by bringing the dish further out from the house when it was originally installed.

2 years later I suppose I have no comeback, but the independent fella is offering to supply and fit for around €80. Worth a go?

We had to have this done a while back also. It solved the problem for most part, no more skipping but in very bad weather heavy wind or rain we still get a pixelated picture.
