Was gonna buy a netbook, maybe a Samsung n130, but I've been reading that there's much better ones around the corner, do you think if i wait for a few weeks the prices will drop? Thanks for your help!

I think the prices you'll find now are already the 'reduced' prices, or as reduced as they're going to get.

N130 is at £228 on amazon at the moment (free shipping), and I can't see them dipping much lower than that (maybe ten or twenty quid), so I would buy one at that price if you were after one.

I came across this while googling for something else entirely. I have no idea if it is any good.

the new pinetail chips will not offer much in the way of increased performance but will offer 10-20% better battery life due to decreased power consumption.

the other new thing in netbooks will be the ion 2 chipset for graphics. ion 1 had better graphics performance but dragged down general cpu performance and also ate into battery life in a big way.

new netbooks with both of these enhancements will cost more anyways so if you don't particularly need these changes just pick one of the better samsung or toshiba models currently out there.....

    Not according to this.

PC prices set to rise following a shortage of chips.

You might see older stock being sold off at a reduced rate, eg stuff preloaded with Windows XP etc.

The NC10 is hanging in there and the price is not really going down despite the arrival of the N130 and N140. In fact, it's much easier to get a bargain N130 than the NC10 at the moment.

Actually a recent article I read suggests Computer Costs will begin rising,

    http://gizmodo.com/5446405/sorry-pc-buyers-of-the-future-prices-are-going-up

The main culprits are D-Ram memory chips, which have seen a 23% price increase this year and make up 10% of a computer's cost. The move from DDR2 to DDR3 is primarily what's wreaking havoc. Memory's not alone, though: while the overall cost of semiconductor components has declined by an average of 7.8% per year since 2000, the Financial Times reports that this year Gartner analysts expect them to go up 2.3%. LCD panels are also tapped for a 20% cost increase.

It remains to be seen how much of the cost is going to be passed along to consumers, but there's no way that the component prices can increase this much and the end product can keep getting cheaper. It was a good ride while it lasted, but it's almost time to pay the PC piper. [
