I sent UPC a mail asking if HD was availble in my area a few days ago and out of the blue I got a phone call from no one less than UPC where a friendly young female told me that HD is not availble in my area yet!

    Two comments:

    1. I'm still bang in the middle of the city center of Dublin and no HD? UPC is advertising heavily for HD but far from available everywhere  I'm indirectly paying for this service though my subscription as HD is only EUR 2.50 which i guess goes towards the box

    2. Answering a mail by phone  Welcome to the 21st centruty...

    :D

I don't know, personally I love it when friendly young females phone me out of the blue. If ever I do want to get rid of an unsolicited call, a polite "so what are you wearing" ends the conversation pretty quick.

Seriously though, I put in a query several days ago too, and no response. I'm not too upset, since my questions have all been answered here, but you'd wonder why UPC are so obsessed with phone support. It surely must be the most costly, and is probably less effective given phone callers expect immediate answers, whereas people will happily wait a day or more for an email response.

The conversation was a bit weird.

    Me: "Hello, Cupart speaking".
    UPC: "Hello is this Cupart?"
    Me: "Hello, yes, speaking.",
UPC: "Hello my name is Lisa. You sent us a mail asking about HD availability in your area.",
    Me: "Erh, yes.",
UPC: "It's not available in your area"
    Me: "Oh..."
    UPC: "Bye then."
    Me: "Erh, ok, bye then".

I can see how this beat the good old mail writing reply
