I got a jacket for Christmas, been wearing it all the time but iv been taking care of it cause of how much it cost.

On the way home from the gym today it was raining, not heavily really but it was windy, i felt cold patches on my shoulders and when i checked the mirror when i got in,the jacket is leaking on both sides at stitched seems.

    http://www2.thenorthface.com/opencms/opencms/tnf/gear.jsp?site=ap&model=ALFL&language=en

Here is the jacket,it says its waterproof but it is a ski jacket, but surely for the money i paid for it a little rain shouldnt do it any hassle,iv the receipt here in front of me,do you think if i go into the place i bought it i will get my money back?

Cheers for the help, pretty pissed off at this!!!

    Is it a knock off/fake?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

I use to work in a Millets and I can tell you that there are different levels of Waterproof. Most Ski jackets are snow proof/shower proof but wouldn't hold up to any amount of real rain.

If it should be fully waterproof then you should be able to return it for a replacement but I think northface like to get them back to test them before the refund/replacement is given.

You can also buy a wash that waterproofs/reproofs jackets. You put it in a wash with this stuff and it seals it up.

    lol at the description.
Funky plaid pattering singles you out for style on the slopes........

I didn't think the word funky had been used in a positive sense since the early 80's :D.

Not the jacket is waterproof, just the material.

Well does that not mean it keeps the water out? considering the jacket is covered in the material?

Repels "snow and wind", rain was never part of the deal

You'd need a sense of humour to wear a jacket like that.

No no they were sealed,im going into the shop tomorrow to see what they say,its only happening around 2 seems so it does sound like a fault in the jacket.

    Yes.

If your "straitjacket" is anything like the one in Abigayle's sig then i'd be all over it.

@ OP - Great Outdoors are a really good shop and should be more than willing to give you a replacement. I never had a problem bringing back the one item i got there.

@ Whover said he was ripped off:- You get what you pay for. NF jackets are pretty much top of the range and will last for years. No comparison with any other cheaper "rainproof" jackets imo.

Edit: hadn't clicked on the link til after i posted my reply. :o State of it. Ripped off is right

Food, clothes, women etc are all to do with taste. Doesn't matter what you put a pic of, at least 10 -20% will just go "Can't believe you'd eat that, wear that, eat that( ;) )" respectively.
