Car tax question - can I buy a van?

    Hi all,

I want to buy a land rover defender 110. The car is currently taxed as a commercial vehicle at 288 euro. It has only 2 seats and no windows in the back.

I've no vat number or anything, don't have my own business and I just want to use the defender for some weekend fun and this summer I plan to drive around europe in it.

If I buy this car what do I have to do with the tax - can I keep it on commercial tax or do I have to change it over to private? Anything else to consider tax wise?

If I have to change it over to private tax then a lot of insurers say it can't be a car van or van - a category this vehicle kindof falls in. How does this work?

If I can stay on commercial tax how does it work with insurance, can I use private insurance? and again - what about the car-van classification?

thanks a lot - this is really confusing me and it's bloody difficult to get a straight answer.
