Blog hosting with blogger or your own host

    Hello everyone.


    I'm just wondering if there is any point paying for your own hosting solution when you can use blogger with a custom domain.

    Sure there is. Blogger is essentially the "training wheels" of blog software. Once you've been at it a while you'll want more features and most importantly more control. You just can't get the level of control most people want with solutions like blogger.

    There are a lot of reason to have your own domain.
    • It's professional
    • Your own email address (yourname@yourdomain.com)
    • Branding
    • More design control
    • Permanent location (what if a new blog platform comes out that is awesome and won't transfer your Blogger database?)
    • Because Seth Godin says he should've instead of using sethgodin.typepad.com

    With that said, there are plenty of good reasons to use blogspot, wordpress and typepad.com domains. It all depends on the person. If those things on my (very) short list struck you...you should consider. If they don't matter, then blogspot is perfect.
