Disc Drive

My disc drive is stuck! Put a CD in earlier and now it will not come out. The CD is being recognised and will play in iTunes, and the drive makes the usual eject sounds, but the CD won't come out.

Will I need to send it off to be fixed? Last time I had a problem I used Mactivate in Blanchardstown and it took about 3 weeks as I needed a part. Anyone know anywhere else that's good, or will these folk be alright again?

    Cheers!

Restart the machine and hold down the mouse button, failing that what machine is it, most of them have a hole big enough to fit a paper clip into. Straighten one side of the paper clip, and insert it fully (there will be resistance, this is normal).

If it's a Mac mini, I don't think the paper clip works (I could be wrong)

Sorry, forgot to mention it's a Macbook.

Don't know if this will make sense, but when I look in the part where the CD goes in, there's a felt like material and it's all dislodged looking. When I hit eject, I can just about see the disc, and then it goes back in.

You can do the same thing Rulmeq suggests by pressing and holding the trackpad/touchpad button down while the MacBook reboots - it should spit the disc out before it boot into Mac OS X then.

Oh, sounds bad... There's no eject hole on macbooks :( Bring it to one of the repair centres, they should be able to help.

I had the same problem with my old G4 PowerBook. This is what I did......

[WARNING, TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK]

My problem was that the stuck disk was trying to eject but hitting off something and reloading itself. So I needed to help ease it out.

I got a second CD and gently used it to lift the stuck CD over what ever it was stuck on. It took a few attempts, but worked in the end, no damage to CDs or drive.

    [/WARNING]

if the felt has come off the drive its unlikely you will be able to remove the disc without a take apart. if you were dissatisfied with mactivate as they were too slow try another provider.

I fixed this problem on my brothers MBP. He had put in an 'eco' disc and it was too thin for ejection. All you need to do is insert a 20cm wide and 120cm long strip of thin plastic on top of your stuck cd. Those cheap plastic cd cover that magazine's use are ideal to cut up and use. Some think it's better to hold laptop upside down but I didn't find it necessary. Slide the srip in and press eject. You may need a few tries to get it right. Good luck with it :~)
