Timing Belts, advise?

I was speaking to an uncle of mine over the christmas and was asking me about my car, i drive a 01 Nissan Almera. He was asking how many miles were on the clock and i told him it had just reached 60k, he asked if i had had my timing belt changed and when i said no he just went on and on about how dangerous it was for me to keep driving it past 60k miles and that my car was sure to "sit down" on me very very soon, needless to say he has me freaked out that i am gonna be stopped at a set of lights and the car wont move off, does anyone know anything about this? Is it inevitable? Thanks!

IIRC your car should have a timing chain rather than a rubber timing belt which shouldn't really need replacement

and if it does have a belt, it'll do a lot more than not move off at a set of lights when it goes!!

OP, if it is a 1.5 Almera, it's got a timing chain, supposed to last the life of the engine. The Diesel I'm not sure about.
