Problem with iPod classic

Hi, had a search on a few forums but couldnt find anything that helped me.
So anyway i have a iPod classic 80G which was working fine untill last week when i plugged it into iTunes to sync. As i did this iTunes froze and i was forced to just pull out my iPod and straight away my iTunes was working fine however my ipod after it restarting all i was left with with only one artist on it. So i plugged it back into itunes and saw that all my music was now under 'other' in the sync menu. So i decided just to restore it and resync everything. Now this worked fine untill i reached 14G of music on my iPod (i have 30) and like before iTunes crashed and when i pulled my iPod out it only had the one artist and itunes resumed normally. I restored it again and the same problem happened.
Each time i did this it gave me a different error one of which was a volume disc error.
I then tried syncing my iPhone 3G and that worked fine.
So i tried to sync my iPod with my sister iTunes to see if the problem was my iPod or my iTunes and it reached the 14G mark again and the same thing happened. This iTunes is however on the same computer.

So i think i may have to send it away for repair whick kinda bugs me as you can usualy fix these things, i had no trouble unlocking my phone and more than likely its gona cost alot as im out of warrenty.
Before im gona send it away i will try sync it with a friends computer just to make sure its my computer thats not at fault.

Well sorry for the long post well i was just wondering does anyone have any ideas. Im thinking this is a hardware problem so i dont have much faith. BTW im on windows and i have the latest itunes and firware.

sorry for late reply it sounds like the hdd is finished what happens when you restore it using itunes
