If they pester you to stay tell them you are leaving the country. They cancel straight away when you do this

Hmm, I rang today to cancel. I was wondering what the cancellation terms would be and in the end they said there was 31 days notice. I can live with that. It's what I expected. I was afraid to cancel 31 days ago (to tie in more or less with my 12 month end of contract anniversary) in case they killed the telly over Christmas and the kids got really annoyed. I'm less than happy that I have to ring them back to get my refund after my next direct debit goes through . . . it really, really, really bugs me that places like Sky can take money off you at the drop of a hat but getting a refund involves hens teeth, first born, etc . . .

When they asked why I was cancelling I told them I was off to freesat. Then they came back with "you will only get RTE with a Sky box (*terms and conditions like being untrue and incorrect may apply)". "Will you miss any of the channels you currently get ?" . . . erm, no, I don't watch sh!te. "I can give you a new package for €10 a month for 6 months" . . . erm, yawn. He realised soon enough that I wasn't for turning.

The sad thing is some people will believe this nonsense.

Yeah, we got a Samsung TV with digital tuner on it a few months back and the replacement for the Sky box (MVision 200 HD Combo) has a digital tuner also. As it is, we could still pick the RTEs up with an analog receiver too.

Sky lie by saying that if you unsubscribe from Sky you will lose RTÉ. RTÉ is available via a rooftop aerial to the vast majority of those in this country.

If Sky are using this as a marketing ploy, maybe they should be paying RTE for the benefit of having that angle to con people with ?

It is, of course, a complete lie as Mossy Monk pointed out.
