Anyone remember the jacket that Charles used to wear when he read the news? It should have come with a warning for epileptics cos it used to go into this mad spazz of flickering, kind of like the flickerings that can bring on epileptic fits.
    Anyone?

Also on the subject of newsreaders do you remember Don Cockburn trying to get to 'Goodnight' before he broke his ****e laughing. Every single night it happened. It kind of became his thing after a while. Ah, the heady days if news in Ireland! :D

I remember Charles Mitchell's jackets all right. He wasn't the only one either - Liam Nolan used to have some migraine-inducing blazers as well. Don Cockburn was one of the best newsreaders ever, especially doing news for the deaf, when his face would contort with the effort of over-enunciation and he'd look like he was snarling at the camera. Mad hair too.
