Hi I have a Compaq presario C700 and suddenly its not working- screen is white with a vertical black line in centre about 1" thick. It won't boot up or go past this.

I have tried removing battery , leaving it overnight and trying again atc but still same problem.

    I can't connect to another monitor as i don't have a connection.

Anyone know what the problem would be?
    Expensive to fix?

    Thanks

Sounds like a faulty graphics card or monitor. You will have to borrow a PC monitor to check it out to rule out one or the other.

Ok I connected to another monitor and it works fine. So does anyone know what the problem might be?
    Graphics card?
    Thanks

A little googling tends to indicate that such a line results from a faulty connection inside the screen unit. if you know someone that knows how to take apart the monitor to check that would be handy. otherwise you would be better off leaving it in to a good computer repair shop.

ps. when the laptop is on press on all sides of the lcd/monitor not too hard and see if the black vertical line changes or dissapears. also give the back of the lcd/monitor a reasonable few taps in the middle and around the edges to see if it goes. it seems like it could be a loose connection worth a try but keep your eye on it when doing this to see does anything change.
