US PSN store with a Euro PSP

Recently picked up a PSPGo, love the fact that you don't need to haul around a bunch of disks. Was hoping to get some of the original PS classics but most of them are not available in Europe, eg. Oddworld, RE and Silent Hill series are the ones I would be most interested in. Any way of getting these through the US Store?

Is it as easy as setting up a US acccount and downloading them?

You might be able to set up a US account, it depends on whether or not it can verify your credit card.

True but I could pick up US PSN card somewhere, but might be a waste if the PSN store checks your IP Address like the xbox live store does. Anyone familiar with this?

I'm only familiar with the PS3 but it's just a case of creating another fake account on that. It doesn't check ip either. Some credit cards don't work but you can get PSN codes from sellers on ebay.

Don't know much about the PSPGo, but do you download directly to the PSP? Or do you d/l to PS3 and then onto PSP?

I can't imagine that it would matter, as I've downloaded games on the US PSN to the PS3 with no IP issues.

My VISA works on US PSN, but not Mastercard.

Creating an account is no problem at all with or without a credit card, if you have a Visa you can buy from the US store, otherwise buy the psn money from eBay.

F1ngers you can download directly to the psp through the wireless, download onto the ps3 and transfer it across to the psp, or download it on your pc and transfer to psp...

Only the US PSN video store checks your IP,so you can't access that.

jester77, the only thing to be aware of is when you download from the US store, you will have to activate your psp for that region (us) to play the game, it's done in the account settings, not a big problem.

After some more investigation I have found out that this is indeed possible... but, the games you download from the US store are only playable with your US user account and the same for the EU account. I've been told you have to logout the user on your PSP and log in with the other user to be able to play those games from that region. Guess you would need an internet connection to do this? which would make playing on the go a bit frustrating :(

It doesn't. I have spent about $30-40 on the US PSN. I have not had a problem.

However I have noticed that the price disparity isn't all its cracked up to be. Most €8 games on EU PSN are $10 on the US PSN...so a saving of about €1.11 (significantk, but not remarkable).

Over Christmas the EU PSN had a far better sale than the US.....some titles such as NHL 3x3 were actually cheaper on the EU PSN than the US PSN.

I can't login on my PSP due to CFW, does that mean I wouldn't be able to purhcase from the US store becasue I wouldn't be able to switch accounts to play the stuff?

Yes, you would not be able to, and even if you could, newer games would not run as they'd need the newest firmware. However, as you have a PS3 you can download games from your US account and the PS3 will change the region the PSP is activated with for you. Any games that require 5.50 and older should work fine for you with this method.

If I read your post correctly isn't that just another negative for digital downloads?

Do you mean CFW versus OFW wise?

If you're on CFW, well I guess so, except digital download versions of PSOne games in my experience work better than some of the rips I've made myself. If you're on OFW it makes no difference - you can login to whatever PSN account you want and purchase whatever you want if you have the means (credit card etc) to do so. You can then also game share the games, or in the case of minis, play them on your PS3.

The CFW scene for PSP is playing catch up to Sony at the moment since FW 6.XX, but this happened before with 3.7X so things could improve. If they made it so you could sign in to the PSN again then you'd have no problem. At least you have a PS3 so you can bypass the problem sometimes.

I guess I mean that if I buy a boxed PSP game then I can play it no matter my firmware but if it is a digital copy then I could be restricted by firmware? Is that right?

Oh no games on UMD require you to have the newest firmware as well, so say, anything released in the last 3 months or so won't run from the disc on CFW (at least that's my understanding of how things work at the moment). It'll say 'System software 6.10 required' or something like that. However, the newest CFW will let you play these games if you rip them to your memory stick and then patch them.

So yeah, sorry, didn't understand your question properly. Both digital and UMD releases require FW of a certain version to run, only the newest games require the latest OFW. PSone classics will require the FW that was out at the time they were first released on the PSN store.
