They're brilliant but I still have problems with 'effect' and 'affect'

They say you should use 'affect' like a verb but would you not say

'It had a huge affect on her'?

No, I wouldn't. I can't recall the last time I have actually used "affect" to be honest.

mistakes with lose/their/your/its/effect/weather/alot/then is down to grammatical errors, no? it's not as if many people lack the ability to spell their, there or they're, they just don't know when to use the correct word.

    I wouldn't.

"It had a huge effect on her."

"Apply the cream to the affected area."

That's as far as I'm aware anyway.

"You're" and "your" is the only one that gets to me when I see other people mixing them up. It's as though the people who misuse it don't even understand what (this -> ' <-this) signifies?

I never really got why it's possible to use 'affects' in a sentence like "to gather his affects", as in 'gather his things'

    Any english graduates out there?

If something changes something, that means that it affects it. The end result of that change is the effect. So whatever 'affected her' had a huge 'effect' on her!

The only one I can't pigeonhole is 'to effect change in something'. That is neither here nor there.

If anyone writes for a living, actually, if anyone writes at all, then they need to purchase this little fit in your pocket book. It's brilliant.

This link has a great explanation for the difference between affect/effect. Using aardvarks - it works!
