Seeing as no where in country is sub zero tonight(www.met.ie) and dangerous ice is largely gone and roads are grand (in dublin at least) will the schools be reopening tomorrow or are these annoying kids gonna be everywhere again tomorrow afternoon? My neighbours are a group of teachers in their twenties and judging by the shouting and singing coming from their house they have no intention of working tomorrow despite a near complete thaw in this part of country

Bat O'Keefe announced all schools would be closed until Thursday,he's not going to change that to tomorrow.

It was all over the news..

    Apologies! :o

Anyway, school's won't be back until Thursday. It'd be a nightmare now trying to tell people that in certain areas school is back... It's not gonna happen. It's probably for the best, getting mothers and busses going to school in this weather where there could still be black ice would be plain stupid.

If i was an employer in Dublin i wouldn't be too impressed with anyone not coming in because of 'weather'.

I highly doubt it, when it was all over the media outlets that schools both secondary and primary would be closed until thursday. That said most college's too, mine also let us know and that was about 2mins prior to the news telling everyone that the ice was melting and the temperatures were rising.

It's not just the ice you have to consider, snow is also hard to get by in, yes walking it's easier but for those school children in cars/buses ect it's harder when buses won't travel or their parents refuse to drive in such conditions and with the ever lasting snow downfalls approaching both tonight and tomorrow ,i cannot see a news broadcast quite easily in the morning to state children are back to school.

They're just covering their asses in fairness. Maybe tomorrow there'll be a broadcast stating because such conditions are near enough back to normal , children will be back on Wednesday rather than Thursday.

I have to agree with this post. - I ventured down the country for 2 weeks to visit my mother who lives in the mid-west of ireland. It was there weeks before that the snow and icy conditions came about. Through out christmas and even up until the day prior to NYE i couldn't go anywhere :( house bound.

I come back to Dublin and people are bitching and moaning only having it a week, i kept thinking go to that area of anywhere within the west and you'll see what the conditions are really like!! still people giving out - sickens me to be honest, i think of the elderly in those areas and feel so sorry for them. First they have floods then these ice and snow situations poor poor old people :(

I'm agreeing on the level that you're upset, however he did say 'this area' meaning Dublin.. - i'm going to contradict myself here, it's just as hard in the city when because of these conditions it shuts down after a certain point, as it is within the country.

Bruce Colledge in Cork is,seems to be the only one in the county as the other grind/private schools are closed.

that being said they finally realised many of us cant make it as of the weather((Passed my maths teacher whos jeep was stuck on a hill :pac:))so they're only going to do revision.

    Spoken like a true employer:D

I think anybody would use this weather as an excuse to get out of work or school/college if they could, but it just looks like the schools and some colleges are doing so. I wish my college would notify me about what's going on tommorow. I assume it's open but i'd still like to be notified anyway.

now we wouldn't want to interfere with those "hard working" teachers lie on in the morning, i mean i'm sure they'll be busy the next few days surfing the web for holiday bargains to fill their three month summer break

How dare you, many teachers have spent their weekend cleaning up schools after burst pipes etc.

Resentful much? Anyway teachers don't get to avail of these bargains as they are working and off when the prices are jacked up.
