this is an opportunity to get to know ur neighbours!

seriously though, i'm sure one of them will have jump leads and will be willing to help ya out, this isnt something you need to pay a mechanic for.

Do the AA do paid call outs if you are not a member? Can you join over the phone and call them out?

Where do you get your car serviced? if it's with a local mechanic he should be able to help you...

not covered with insurance, not a member of AA

In all fairness, you may not even need a jump start. A push from 2 strong guys should be enough to start the car in second gear.
Any decent guy though will give you a jump start, neighbour or no. Just ask. Believe in the goodness of the irish people

Im sure someone here wouldnt mind giving you a jump start, there are plenty of people on here in D15. I can do it in the morning if you are stuck but wouldnt be until about 10.

no not originally from dublin and don't want to hassle my dad or brother-in-law to drive all the way up to do it for me. My car is serviced in my home county also. Just knew there was a service at the airport that did this, just though they might me a citywide service. Going to check out AA membership now

im in Dublin 6 ....can drive out to you if you are still stuck (will take approx 20mins)

    (only just spotted the thread)

AFAIK they charge €60 to jump start cars in the airport, imagine what their call-out fee is

People are good, just ask a neighbour. even if they don't have the jump leads they may know someone who has them - and you get to know your neighbours :D

Having the bonnet up with a confused look on your face will help

Thanks everybody for the really kind offers of Help. I've actually just signed up to AA as a post earlier suggested. I figure €22 euro a month is a small price to pay to ensure something like this doesn't happen again. :) Really don't like bothering people. Thanks again

I was just refreshing the thread to say that my offer would remain till 11.30.... then I'd have to goto sleepyland.....work in the morning and all that.

Good to hear you will be sorted soon.

    €22 every month?

Roadside rescue, rescue plus and home start. Surely your insurance policy has some of these already?

I bet your neighbours would like the "bother"

Is it just me or does Lorri seem like a fake poster to make us all join the AA and pay 300 quid a year so we don't have to talk to our neighbours.

A bit scary if it's a fake and more scary if its a real story.

Indeed. What makes people on an internet forum any less of a "stranger" than your neighbour?

i would just like to point out it was an earlier poster that sent me the link for the AA, and I am very greatful to him. I came on her asking for advice on a company or mobile mechanic............. nothing fake about my post.

Do you still have to be a member for 24hours before they'll come out to you?

You say you don't like bothering people, yet you'll let a man drive a heavily loaded van in these conditions rather then knock on some ones door:confused:

Ah man, give it up ... maybe her neighbours are assh0les or something.

At least the AA man is getting paid for it :)

TBH I know far too many people that leave the servicing go on their car because they have AA cover, sure if it breaks down i'll have some lad out to fix it.

Push starting a modern car is'nt recommended.

Neither is jump starting!! Proper way is to charge it up/change battery and start on it's own. But who has time for that.

Saw a girl a few doors down from me getting a jump start from the RAC last week.

I was kind of annoyed that she hadn’t bothered asking any of us on the road. She’s been living there for years and doesn’t bother her arse trying to get to know anyone.
