When the thaw comes...

... will you be disappointed? Personally I am sick of not being able to go anywere quickly, buses stopping early all other transport in a mess. So I must say I am looking forward to the end of this cold weather, but I will miss this working from home lark, I've really enjoyed this. Its been nice to see people smiling, throwing snowballs and RTE news has been hilarious the past few days as well...

So looking forward to the end of the cold snap or would you like our winter wonderland to continue for another while?

When the thaw comes I'll be able to flush the toilet again.

So NO, I won't be disappointed.

I cant wait for this fúckin weather to end. Im sick to the hole of being stuck indoors all the time and how getting from A to B is so dodgy.

Today was the first day with proper snow here, even if it is only about 3 centimetres.

That said, water is frozen since Thurs.

If I could get my water back and keep the snow (and even get more) I'd be happy out.

It'll be nice to be able to have running water again after 2weeks without it so far but we had more ice and frost than snow which isn't as fun!

put some water in the tank above the toilet ....and you have enough water to flush !! (its not rocket science)

Why don't Dublin Authority and their neighbours store all the ice and flood water so that they won't run out of water when we get a few weeks of sunshine in a few months time.

Woke up today at about half 5, all the snow and ice was gone. Surprise surprise, it wasn't the end of the world. Pissin rain now.

When the thaw comes I personally will be devastated I loved the snow and seeing how this was a rare event I was really relishing in it taking in every minute got to spend more time with the family because no-one was rushing here there and everywhere and it brought back a simpler calmer way of life (for me anyway) and Ireland looks beautiful with the snow

Well ya, but that involves much more work. Stupid frozen pipes.

when the thaw comes i'm gonna put on a wash, first the pipes burst, then the washing machine flooded, then the remaining water in it froze

Ermm Lift the cistern lid pour water its not that difficult!!!
if its that much of a problem the "extra work" would have it solved in 5 mins:rolleyes:

I don't know if anyone's been in Dublin City recently, but they've started putting dirt on the footpaths to prevent people from slipping on the ice.

When the ice melts, the place is gonna look manky

Obtaining water when there is no mains is not as easy as you may think.

I just put snow into a bucket and pointed a heater at it for a few mins. Enough water to keep the cistern filled.

This. I love it, and a huge amount of snow fell today.

I can understand though how people without water and people in Dublin would find it annoying. In Dublin you need transport to go anywhere...

I'm booked into almost 10 hotels over the next 2-3 weeks... if this weather sticks I won't make it to half of those :(

So yes, I hope the thaw comes quick

but for the snow...ya!...Let it be here for atleast two more days :(

Its hasnt snowed this ehavy here for over 30 years, and the last time it snowed 30 years ago it was only a fraction of this !

    Problems...What problems?
Where or what could you not get to?

RTE's main headline for 4 days was "salt running out" with pictures of some poor eejit slipping on ice and Gerald Fleming looking worried.

More talk about nothing thanks to lame media sourses if you ask me

Apart from St. Stephen's Day, my locale has been completely covered in inches and inches of snow every day for over three weeks. I'll be sad to see it gone.

I'll be angry I didnt ring in to work saying i couldnt get in cause the weather was too bad, and all the feckers who took time off BECAUSE the weather was too bad.

You are right, it's damn near impossible to find any water on this ISLAND, with a TEMPERATE climate with average RAINFALL in the region of 1000mm per year... It's especially difficult to find in January, even moreso when the majority of the island is covered in snow...

However difficult you may find it to extract water from this extremely wet island, I would hate to see you try get a drop out of this place.

I like the snow, but I guess it'll be better for the country once it's thawed. It has effected a lot of road traffic accidents so at least the roads will be safer.

To answer your question, I'll be glad to be rid of the snow. It disrupted my weekend plans. Was supposed to go to town and instead I've had to stay at home which is annoying and I'm very limited as to what I can do.

Having said that, I will miss the crunching sound the snow makes when I walk in it.

the snow and ice is no joke for old people trying to get to the shops slipping on the ice bones break easier when you are old..
call to your elderly neighbors ask do they need shopping, basics like milk, there kids may not be able to call just look out for those in need.

I would say the roads are actually safer with all the snow and ice on the roads... I wonder what the statistics are like? There will be many many more low speed collisions alright, but how many serious accidents have there been due to the ice? You want to be some gobshíte to drive as normal on those roads...

No, simply because all the good snowmen will melt, and will look like my creation, a miserable pile of snow with twigs and a parsnip (had to use the carrot for dinner) sticking out of it

It has thawed out already when I am:) And it's been raining for about 6 or 7 hours now.

Thank God, cause when walking drunk on ice i fall down a lot more often. :D

Delighted to see the thaw this morning, living in the middle of nowhere the roads have been AWFUL... and with a teenager who's wanting to go out all the time then doing the inevitable can you come pick me up, on the awful roads...... I'm sick of it and will not miss it!!!!!!

Nope. Love the snow. Love the cold air. Could probably live in it for months on end if this was a country that was used to dealing with these conditions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,214 ✭✭✭wylo

gutted to be honest, I loved it, the lakes and forests and landscape looked unreal. You can do way more in terms of going out and enjoying the weather and the countryside in snowy icy conditions than you can in mild pissing rain.

Id happily take that winter every year. It felt good.
