hi all, am new to boards and i am here looking for advice on my diet, losing weight and getting fit, i recently got laid off so i have time on my hands now and no excuses not to do it.
    i am male 30 years old, 17 stone 11 pounds, and 5 foot 6.
my usual day is as follows,
i get up around 8.30 go for a 40 minute walk, come home have a bowl of porridge, then a slice of toast and a cup of tea.
around 1.30pm i have a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich on wholegrain bread with a glass of water.
around 2.30pm i go for another 40 minute walk.
around 6pm have dinner, which is usually cod with vegetables and a few baby potatoes or homemade vegetable soup with a couple of slices of brown bread.
around 8pm i do 15 minutes exercise bike, 10 minutes on a rowing machine and 25 minutes on a treadmill which is some running some walking.
i usually dont eat anything alse after dinner.
is there anywhere i am going wrong or any advice that anyone can give me?
thanks in advance for any replies

how long have you been following that diet and exercise regeime? the diet is ok, but not excellent, it needs more fruit and veg basically.. having said that, am i right in thinking you didnt become over weight by following that diet?

Well done for taking the first steps on losing weight.

The stickies here and in the nutrition forum hold valuable info so take a look now!!!

Stay away from bad carbs in the form of white bread and white pasta, rice, cereals etc. Porridge is a great way to start the day. Mix it up. Some days have some eggs or fruit and natural yogurt?

Stick to wholegrains like brown rice, quinoa.
    Up your veggie intake too.
Cottage cheese, fruits, nuts and nut butters, ryvita are great for snacks.

your on the right track, but think 12 - 18 months to lose that much weight, it will happen slowly but IT WILL happen, so dont give up until you reach your goal
