Dell Vostro 1000 - Bad BIOS recovery in Dublin?

    Guys,

Have a DELL Vostro here that's out of warranty that has just died on me. Was doing a BIOS flash using DELL's utility - and the thing crashed and wont recover.

Cant find a working BIOS recovery method, and it looks like the BIOS chip is soldered to the board - anyone know of a company here in Ireland that can recover/reprogram the chip?

Rather not have to send to the UK if I can avoid.

if it was interrupted during a bios flash, you will probably have to reset the bios. there is usually a way to do this by opening up the computer and moving a jumper no the board for a few seconds then moving it back (more common on towers), or taking out a battery then replacing it. it's different for each motherboard. if you don't feel comfortable doing this then find a friend who is, or, yes, a computer technician.

not sure if you already know this when you say "Cant find a working BIOS recovery method," but thought i'd share anyway.

good luck. and let me know if you need any help with this :)

went on a scavenger hunt there for a while, looking for vostro 1000 help. found the owner's and service manuals here, but couldn't find anything in them about specific jumpers or the battery. have you already been in contact with dell? it's not likely, or probable, but possible that you could get someone on the phone who could tell you which jumpers to look for, or some function key combo trick (which i saw in passing on one website for a certain laptop, in lieu of battery/jumper mucking).

also, does your fan etc turn on? do you hear three short beeps? or is there simply no response at all?
