Annoyed at Northwood gym

Trekked in the snow yesterday to Northwood gym and it was closed due to the weather. There was a sign up and by the number of members who arrived while I was there, their customers had no great problem getting there. One large Polish guy's reaction was "For f*ck's sake!" and I agreed completely.

Cycling is impossible now and running is difficult so the gym is really necessary at the moment. Normally I'm a big fan of Northwood, but I want to to express my annoyance at them for closing so easily. They seem to be closed today also as the phone is not being answered.

Is there anyone on here who works there who can tell us how long they're not going to bother opening? Also, why don't you have a website or a Twitter stream where you can put up news and announcements? This is 2010, please do try to keep up.

Anyone care to join me in expressing annoyance?

    sorry to hear about that.

Although my experience was a bit different this morning. I was up in Total Fitness and they were open, I was looking around and the gym/pool was pretty empty. It got me thinking, we've already paid our money for the gym if they close it because of the weather they would save a fortune, so fair play to them for opening the gym when the easier option would have been to close it.

Carlisle closed the other day aswell and a gym my friend works in is closing at 2pm today. My gym hasn't had classes all week because there hasn't been anyone in. I think I'll ring before I go up to make sure they're open though.

I'm a member of the same gym and I definitely share your annoyance. I live in the apts beside it and a good portion of their membership live in Northwood as well so the decision to close is bullsh1t! I've only used it half a dozen times over the past 12 months seeing as I was road running so much, but just when the weather turns crap and I need it they decide to close? Simply not good enough. I wonder what Mr. Dunne thinks about it all?? Not very clever act when most people seem to be in the position of having to renew at the end of this month...you'd think they'd try to keep us members sweet (Especially like myself who have given them money for nothing!!). I wasn't going to renew anyways but I'm sure this has turned thousands of Euro of potential business away also!

Slightly off topic but has anyone else had issues with parking at Northwood gym. I drive a van and can't get in to the car park proper due to the height restriction. I got a call last week from the local management company to say that where I (and a lot of other people in the same position) park was illegal and would be clamped if seen doing it again. To top it off after three days of phone calls I've still had no response from anyone in a position of responsibilty in the gym. In the meantime I can't use the place.

They're really clamping down (Pun intended) on illegal parking all over the Northwood Estate these days. I'd advise parking at the retail centre and walking across to the gym.

Finally got a response. Nothing they can do about it and apparently Ben Dunne insists on having the height restriction. Happily refunding my membership though.

Not with some of the equipment I have in/on the van!!
