Anyone know why this place was closed in Ranelagh?

Did it not do enough business?

    Sad. Nice little spot.

I'm not surprised. I thought the food there was very poor. It's a pity it's closed though because they also used to employ a certain number of people with special needs which was great.

I think you're thinking of the wrong place Eglinton, that place had the best Burritos in Dublin and I don't recall seeing any special needs employees there.

No, it's the right one. Just across from Smith's. They were on the news and Nationwide about it.

Wow, I'm surprised at that. I ate there many times and never got the impression there were any people with special needs working there.

    Go figure! :D

I didn't really like the food from there, wasn't very nice. I barely noticed it diappear actually, it was very subtle.

Burrito n'blues was class, but closed down due to health and safety. Kitchen mustn't have been in the best order.

Hi there i am the founder of Burritos 'n Blues. What's this about some one opening a business under the same name??? Hmmmm ...Couldn't POSSIBLEY have my recipes etc..... hmmmmmm funny.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 BurritoQueen

Just to set the the record straight. We DID hire staff with special needs. We won the O2 Ability Awards for our work within this catagory. We even had menues in braille. We NEVER had a bad word about our food until after I sold my interest to my investors because of managment of the company conflict issues. Then I followed from a distance the slow demise of my lovely little business as the food quality was lowered and the service became slack. I LOVED my restaurant passionately....still think about it often.... I still own the name as I paid nearly 3k for the design and name etc....oh well so it goes yes?

Would you ever think of getting back into it?

My wife and I miss you...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 BurritoQueen

yes I would LOVE to do this again....really I would love this....capital, capital, capital......how to do this? I've got a bit of moola but not enough....Remind me who you both are ...I would know faces (and what you ordered of course) but not names.... I love now between Tourmakeady Co Mayo and Newport Co Tipperary.....but where there's a will there's a way..

What do you like the most about Burritos 'n Blues?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,035 ✭✭✭✭-Chris-

I don't know if you'd remember us, but we were living on Beechwood Ave and loved to stroll down for some grub.
The favourites were the steak burrito or the guacamole, both were fantastic.
After that we moved to the city centre (working in Sandyford) and once a week we'd make a point of commuting through Ranelagh to pick up some burritos on the way home - they rarely lasted as far as the apartment, they'd normally be gone by the time we got to Christchurch :D.

The main thing I liked was the actual ingredients - everything seemed fresh and good and there was very little "filler". I eat in another burrito place in Dublin and it seems like they put in far more rice and refried beans, and far less veg & meat, than you used to.

By way of a further compliment - I am a bit of a Mexican food fan, and myself and herself were over in California a few years ago, and anytime I ate in a Mexican restaraunt my main yardstick for quality was "is their burrito as tasty as the one from Burritos and Blues?".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 BurritoQueen

Well what wonderful compliments! Thank you very much.
I think this calls for a lets' eat it again Burrito'n Blues reunion???.... all of my former staff have been in contact with me and have been asking for a get-together...so perhaps if anyone else out there would like have a sentimental Burrito-eat-fest do contact me here and we'll plan an afternoon of cooking and eating watcha think? My home in Tourmakeady is lovely and overlooks Lough Mask (20 min from Lenanne and 20 min from Westport) BUT Newport, CoTipp is closer commute wise (only 2 hours from Dublin vs 3.5hrs from Mayo). ....so as in the words of NIKE let's 'JUST DO IT' mi amigos ....signed da one 'n only: BurritoQueen

I used to go to Burritos n' Blues too and I miss the place.:(

Dublin has very few Mexican places as it is. I fell in love with Burritos from my J1 stint in San Francisco in the 90s and Burritos n' Blues was a great place to get a good and affordable burrito. I really hope it reopens.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 BurritoQueen

First thank you of rall teh compliments. I dreamed and planned for 8 long years to open Burritos 'n Blues before I finally got the chance. BUT be clear boys n girls this is NOT the real Burritos 'n Blues just someone who has taken or bought the NAME...I have the origional recipes ....the folks that took it over after I left had a GREAT chance to keep it going but regretfully they began to cut costs by adding in more rice and beans and they stopped marinating the meat for a minimum of 3 days etc., etc., We NEVER had a bad food review until after I sold my interest to the other shareholders.... Oh well....But on the other hand we CAN have a remembrance Silver Burrito EAT-FEST SOON.....

That Boojum place and Pablo Picante seem to do great business these days (and are savage eating), so I don't see why B'n'B's couldn't make a glorious comeback. Wasn't living here at the time, but loadsa people still go on about the quality of the munch ye had going so...

Well folks it looks as if the old Burritos 'n Blues is ACTUALLY rising from the ashes.... it's not some strangers who snapped up the name like I first incorrectly thought!! Some of the old team are involved...so I guess I'll be mosien' along down to Wexford Street to give a helping hand....the food will be based on my old yummy California/Mexican family recipes
So boys' n girls The SILVER BULLET BURRITO is coming back to Ireland yum yum! Mamamarlow

Burritos N Blues Mark 1 was one of the best burrito houses I have ever eaten in. The steak burrito was awesome. Best of luck with the new venture to all involved. Any idea when the grand opening will be taking place?

Burrito's and Blues was the best burrito place in ireland. I've never had one to top it in this country & think that only in southern cali itself will you be able to find one that's better. I used to drive 15 miles just to get the grande (mmmmmmmm....). was gutted to find they closed & was so delighted to see it reopening that i took a picture on my phone and sent it to a bunch of my mates. Are you telling me that they are imposters?! GUTTED! Perfect location tho & I will definitely try it to see if it's anywhere near as good as the old days in Ranelagh. their website is www.burritos.ie

It's lookin like they are close to opening. Stuck my head in today and the counters and all are in, no furniture though. I can't wait!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 BurritoQueen

it ain't me nor the 'real' 'B n B'. At first i thought they were going to use some of us to help out with recipes and such from the old days ...but not so....Well I hope they are a success. If anyone wants recipes from the origional Burritos 'n Blues just let me know..... its all in the secret 3 day-marinade for the yummy steak and chicken Burritos.... and thank you for all of you whio loved eating my food after all this time to think it still is remembered makes me feel good...thanks again, Deborah AKA Mamamarlo.....

I wouldn't mind those secret recipes!! I remember the old place well, and when I popped in today I was sure I recognised 2 peeps from the Ranelagh one.... Anyway best of luck to them, Dublin is being taken over by Burritos and I love it!!!

OMG guys I used to love this place. When is it opening? Do they serve beer there?
There is nothing better than a burrito and a beer.
Is there a Facebook page for Burritos 'n Blues?
The quarter pounder and chips is dated these days so bring back the burrito.
It is not going to do anything for my rotund carcass though!

I think the new place on Wexford Street opened on Friday night as i walked by the place and it seemed to be open, so i went in to sample one. To my amazement they gave me one for free. I think it was a soft launch or something. I picked the chicken quesidilla with medium spice and it was fab. I am going to Burritos n Blues again tonight. Does any one know if they sell chips in there?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 goggarvey

Going to head down to the new place on Wexford street after work... Is it open today?

I remember going to the original before it was taken over by someone else, it was fantastic and we were the last customers one night so they gave us a load of extra food going out the door. I went back a few months later and everything had changed, different staff and food was very different. Didn't go back after that. Hopefully this new place is more like the original.

Tasted it today, very tasty indeed! I can't compare with the original, but I enjoyed it. My American friend, who would be a lot more familiar with burritos, gave it his stamp of approval also...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 greenasil

I was in there today as well. Very tasty.
Not the same as the burritos popularized in American chains like Qdoba or Chipotle, but very satisfying nonetheless.
I'll be back soon for more!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 goggarvey

I was there yesterday and had a strange experience, one of the staff was pretty rude and they had stuff on the menu which wasn't available ( I wouldn't find this strange but since it was the opening day and it was guacamole. )

I enjoyed my food, so did my girlfriend but she was so put off by the guy behind the counter she said she won't be going back. But food is always more important to me so I most certainly will be back.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 Celebrate like a Bull

I was there last night too and it was gorgeous. Went for the chicken quesadilla with melted cheese again, which was off the hook. The queue was huge when I was leaving which is always a good sign. One of my mates who was with me last night is Mexican, he said it was like he was back home without the tequila! Joking aside, a big thumbs up for Burritos n Blues.

Hey BurritoQueen, good to hear you're still going. I stopped by the old Burritos 'N Blues many times and made it a routine for a while to pick up dinner there on Fridays. I don't think I've had a better burrito since it closed. I've tried Boojum burritos and they're pretty good but I think the old BNB was just a little bit better. I think I saw you there once working the till. I'll have to try marinating meat for 3 days.

Ate here today - very tasty. Could be with being a tad bit cheaper though. My burrito with jalapeños and guacamole came to almost 8 euro. Price would probably stop be going there regularly.

Any idea what the nachos are like ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 panch

Man 8 euros for a massive burrito and guac is great value! It's not a soggy sandwich!! Haven't had the nachos but my friend did and they looked unreal, I think they are called big ass nachos. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys!! I'd rather pay 8 euros for fresh food with Irish Meat rather than pay a cheaper price and get bought in crap and rubbish meat. I love the place! Needs more seats though!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭enda1

    Its quite ok.

When I went the lettuce was browning, and the burrito arrived tepid.
This was probably the biggest problem. I mean it wasn't busy, in fact there was no queue so there was no need to rush things! I hate receiving luke warm food.

The salsa is not great either. Its a bit liquid if ye get me.
I much prefer a fresh salsa. I got the second "hottest" salsa too, which was very mild it must be said. (I got the Jalapeño option also).

On the menu there was a choice of two refried bean choices, but I was never given this choice.

Serviettes were non existent, instead there was a large industrial blue surface cleaning roll. A bit useless at cleaning your hands, along with being very awkward.

While I was there were 4 staff working, two were having lunch there with there feet on the seats! Another had lunch after serving us.

I can't see the place lasting ling, especially considering they haven't really improved their offering since the Ralelagh try-out. But we'll see.

To conclude, they're good but not great.
A second to Taco Taco who's salsa is better by quite a stretch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 panch

A bit harsh!! Menu is totally different, big ass nachos, burrito bowls etc. I ate in ranelagh and I now work 2 secs from the new place, and it's totally different! I also know the manager well and he would defo not stand for feet on seats and 2 staff on breaks at one time!

Have you been to Pablo Picante? How would you compare B'n'B to there if you have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 panch

I like Pablos, but I reckon b & bs is better tasting. You can't actually see what goes into pablos burritos as it's all done behind the counter. All bbs is made in front of you with kitchen visible. The chicken is much nicer and the place is way funkier looking. I also love the colourful salsa they use in b&. B don't know what it's called though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 harlot

I'm really surprised that people would favour B& B over Pablo Picante.
I think PP is pretty decent and their salsas are great.

I used to frequent B&B in Ranelagh and while I didn't think that it was the most amazing burrito going it certainly did the job.
I was so excited to hear it was opening on Wexford St as I live very close by.

I've been twice now and both times I have been left completely disappointed.
First up was the burrito with pork made by one of the grumpiest lads I have come across in a long time. All the ingredients were cold and the salsa had no kick whatsoever. I am a bit of a spice wuss so opted for salsa 2 (of 4, although the guy only offered me 3 choices) and it was a pathetic level of spice. The pork was really fatty too. Only when he was rolling it and I said to him (for the second or third time) that I wanted sour cream did he bark at me that they didn't have any.

I went back the other day to give it one last chance and got the chicken burrito. Got salsa 3 and it was a bit better spice wise. Still, the ingredients were all cold, the chicken was pretty much tasteless and the grumpy guy was there once again resentfully rolling my burrito.

No love goes into the making of those burritos!

Going to Boojum tomorrow so it'll be good to compare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 panch

I agree, some of the staff are not great! But they are only open 2 weeks, I have had some great burritos from pp's but I have also had some howlers!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 Celebrate like a Bull

B&Bs is fresh, clean and has a cool fit out. Even though they are only opened a few weeks they are doing it very well. Was in there the other day and one of the guys working there came over to me as i was eating my burrito and asked me do i want more salsa. This doesn't happen in any other takeaways that i have been to and is over and above what i would expect. Great service and very tasty feed. Pity they wouldn't open one on the north side as i am travelling from howth to get my burrito. Well worth it though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 GAA_GC

I was here only the other day after a work meeting and the burrito's where off the wall. I am going back again at the weekend to show a friend as she absolutely loves Mexican food. Definitely worth the trip from Drimnagh in ....... :)
