How long ago was it since you could see the channels. The Irish DTT channels are broadcast in Mpeg4 now and their is Thousand's may be Millions of tv's in ireland that can only receive Mpeg2
If your tv is Mpeg2 {which is very likely} then you will only receive audio and no video

I had a similar problem now that I think about it. I rescanned the channels but under the UK settings on my tv. Channels start in the 800's but better than nothing.

If it worked before then you have an MPEG4 tv

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but can anyone tell me where I'm getting my digital channels from.

    I'm in North Tipperary.

Probably Maghera (Gort) or Mt. Leinster, impossible to say even if you gave your exact location, unlikely to be Cairn Hill in Co. Longford as it's signal doesn't make it much past Birr.

Is your aerial pointing W (Maghera) or SE (Mt. Leinster)? Better still, do you know which UHF channel is carrying the DTT signal? Gort is ch. 48, Mt. Leinster is ch. 45.

Terrestrial refers to broadcasting from transmitters located at the tops of mountains, as opposed to satellite and cable. 'Terra'' is Latin for land or earth as in 'terra firma' meaning firm ground. To receive terrestrial TV you need an aerial.

Again it looks like your tv has an Mpeg2 tuner not an Mpeg4 which is needed to view the Irish digital channels. read back through this thread for more info

If the signal wasn't strong enough you would get nothing at all.

i was talkin to someone from philpis and this is what i got , just to let some other people know :

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing a problem with your television.

I regret to inform you that you will not be able to receive the MPEG-4 broadcasts in Ireland.

The DTT in Ireland has only recently been rolled out. At the time of testing the service it was thought that no digital devices would be compatible with the digital service in Ireland. The reason for this is because they are not designed to be compatible with the digital service in Ireland.

Your television does not have an MPEG-4 tuner and I regret to inform you that there is no way to convert it so that it can display these signals.

I have provided a link below to some information about the Irish digital service which you may be interested to look at.

That is quite a sweeping statement but it doesn't apply to all models of Philips TVs. Note that the response from Philips refers to 'your television', not to all Philips TVs. I have a Philips 42PFL8404 which I purchased last September and the spec. sheet clearly says that it has an MPEG4 Tuner....

Cop out and all lies. Its on a year and a half.

MPEG4 is nothing new. They follow a standard for god sake. You could ask them when their warehouses will be empty of redundant technology or no longer shipped here.

What model is it ? Any of these ?

That is definately not a MPEG4 tv. A friend of mine has one and it is just audio for him too.

The Boxer sticker refers to Boxer DTT Sweden which began in 1999 using MPEG-2 video compression.

Since April 2008 all new DTT receivers certified by Boxer to carry the Boxer logo must be MPEG-4 compliant. Boxer offically launches its DVB-T/MPEG-4 multiplex on 1st Feb with five new channels and two migrating from MPEG-2.

Try the Neotion CAM. works for others in that V4000 range. It might just work

What is the significance of this list? I have a 42PFL9632D/10 and cannot get pics, only sound so it must only have MPEG2 support (BTW, have to set the country to UK for the Autochannel set-up to include Digital channels, it only searches for Analogue if country is set to Ireland!).
I bought it 1.5 years ago and it wasn't cheap! so annoyed it doesn't support MPEG4, other than that it's a great TV.

Here's the leaflet for your TV: http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/4/42pfl9632d_10/42pfl9632d_10_pss_eng.pdf Under Tuner/Reception/Transmission "DVB-T MPEG4" is not stated. It would appear that Philips TVs that support the MPEG4 standard specifically states so in the specs. I know it's too late for you now jkram but anyone wishing to purchase a Philips TV should download the specific leaflet form the Philips website beforehand.

Id imagine people in the thurles and maybe templemore area would get it from mount leinster whereas people in the nenagh/roscrea area would get their signal from maghera.

The significance is that the dvb-t tuner for those models can be enabled by inserting a pcmia card called an MPEG4 cam into the slot in the back of your TV.

Link is in the this page a few posts back... saortv.

Thanks Satdog. Should have checked Boards before commiting to buy it but it had a great write up and 5 stars in WHAT TV and was reduced by €400 as a special ofer for the opening of a new local store. Never mind, I have Sky so not missing out on much at the moment. On reading other threads it looks like there's a CAM which would solve the issue but not sure which one.
What I really want is more HD Free-to air so I can get it on my "other channels" like BBC HD, do you know of any. I cancelled the rip off Sky HD as I don't hev movies or sports package and €15/month for Luxe TV was taking the p!22

    Luxe TV is free!

There are 3 HD stations that I know of on Astra 28.2 that are free BBC HD, ITV HD and Luxe HD. Shortly there will be a fourth in CH4 HD.

You may want to consider the Edision Argus mini 2 in 1 IP Combo HD Satellite/DTT Receiver which is €160. The cam is about €60 but will only enable your dvb-t channel. The combo box will allow you to mix the channels both DTT and HD and SD Sat in one channel list. That also means one remote control. You can also record via the USB with a pen drive or HDD. SaorTV were selling the non IP version of that box for €150. Might be a better investment than the Neotion Cam.

I assume you know what channels are free without paying Sky. If you got rid of the Sky Sports package am I right in presuming you are not paying them anymore for anything.
