2004 Corolla CD Player Skipping Problem

    Hi guys,

As the title suggests, I have a 2004 Corolla, and lately I've been noticing a minor issue with the CD player in it (stock player, dash mounted, no changer or anything). For some reason, it seems that if I play an audio CD that's especially "full", as in the duration of content approaches the limit of the CD's capacity, the player starts skipping/jumping during playback on the later tracks, i.e. the ones situated towards the outside of the disc. Has anyone ever heard of the likes of this happening before, or is there anyone with ideas as to why this might be, or how to fix it please? I'm not sure if this has always happened, as I can't recall whether I played any other long CDs in it over the years.

Any help or light shed would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Could be dust on lense, scratches on your cds, vibration from the car or a tracking problem inside player (repair job). Try a cleaning cd €3 in any music shop.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd be reasonably sure that it's not scratches, as it has happened on a few brand new CDs that I have, which also play perfectly in other players.

I'm afraid I'd be similarly skeptical of the dust issue, as it's only when it gets to the later stages of the disc - would dust not cause skipping throughout? I'm wary of using a cleaning disc, as I have seen a number of things online that they should not be used in slot loading players of this type. Vibration also seems unlikely, as it occurs with the car stationary, and the engine off, so I wouldn't see where vibration would be coming from in this case.

I suppose that leaves tracking, which I had hoped it might not be. Any idea what's involved in fixing that, costwise or else? Or would I be as well to look at a new unit?
