Advice/Help Needed

Another driver took a disliking to my car a little while ago and my car has been classified as a financial write off which has rightly cheesed me off

I am now in the look out for a new car as a matter of urgency but I won't rush into a decision.

Can anyone pass any comments on the pros and cons of a Hyundai i30 diesel against a Ford Focus.

I do approx 100km per working day so that's the reason of the diesel engine.

    All comments are appreciated ;)

How long will you be keeping the car? How do you use your car? If you like a decent drive the focus will be the one but if it's solely cruising the i30 will be at least as good and probably more reliable too. Also it's got a good warranty

Focus is a superior car to the i30 bar standard equipment and warranty. If you are considering the i30 then have a look at it's sister car the Kia Cee'd which comes with a 7 year warranty if the plan is to keep the car for a good number of years.

One thing to note about the Focus though is that the current model is coming to the end of it's life cycle, a new model is just around the corner. If that doesn't bother you then there maybe a good deal to be had on them.

The best advise though is to go out and test drive all of them before deciding.

All new Kia cars now have a 7 year warranty.

I hope to keep the car for 4-5 years and then change again.

I have been offered an ex-demo i30 for a bloody good price even if i do say so myself so i'm probably leaning towards it rather than a bog standard Focus.

I'm not convinced about the Kia as it's not renowned for its re-sale value.

Having said that, I'm open to advice.

On a side note, any ideas on where I can sell a damaged Punto that's a financial write off ????

If you aren't running it to the ground you'd probably get more money back on a focus. I have only driven a 1.4 i30 but it was definitely smoother and quieter than a focus, nicely built and good kit. Not a lot in it though and focus is better overall

I probably would get a better return on the focus but it's also a higher outlay in the beginning !

the i30 is a seriously good car. the high hp diesel is a cracker and spec is good.

True enough I guess. Depends how much you like driving though. Controls of the focus are just that bit nicer

I cannot see the i30 retaining much more of it's value over a similar Cee'd in 4 or 5 years time. And they are the same car underneath.

    +1

And depending on mileage the KIA may have warranty left
