Massive Bounce Outs

I've been having a bit of bother with bounce outs since I started throwing again.

I have a standard Winmau board. Nothing exceptional or out of the ordinary about it. I expect bounce outs but the level of rebound I'm getting off them is extreme. Its hung on the back of a door if that makes any difference?

I thought it might be my darts so I had them sharpened but that didn't help either.
Also I don't throw particularly hard or anything like that. It's not as if I'm launching them into the board like a javelin.

Some of them make it back 5-6 feet back up the oche. One good thing is that it got me out of the nasty habit of walking towards the board as soon as I release the last dart. But it is dangerous. If they are coming back 5-6 feet then theres every chance with a freaky enough bounce one make it all the way back to me at head height.

Anyone got any ideas what might be up?

I actually think it has something to do with the board too. Have a Winmau and the level of bounce outs seem alot higher than others

the board might be gone hard, especially if its on the back door and exposed to the cold when the door is opened? Could be just age or your throw as well though, just walk up and try to push a dart into it in a few spots to see if its harder than it should be.

On most cheaper Winmau boards I have at least 4-6 bounce outs every leg, mainly due to my throw, if my dart clips the wire with the way i throw it often bounces out as opposed to going in like it should mainly because i don't throw the darts very hard.

Cheers lads. The board doesn't seem hard. My main concern isn't the number of bounce outs but rather the fact they are flying back out of the board at great velocity and distance

Buy yourself an Eclipse Pro board. You will get almost zero bounce outs with this board.

    +1

the pdc use them for a reason, the wires are tiny, like dental floss, and the bristles are nice and soft to, even a girl will get a dart to stick in the board :D

I had a Hustler board and ibe the same problem despite the fact i throw darts like a weak girl. It's difficult to concentrate on your aim when you are thinking about jumping out of the way.

Couldnt believe how close to the board Justin Lee Collins had his son on his 180 show but got an eclipse pro and saw he was in no danger at all.

    hahaha :D very good!

I used to have a phil taylor board. I only had it because I was buying it for the cabinet and decided might aswell get my use out of the board. I kind of got used to the numerous numerous (meant that twice) bounce outs, the closest they got to me was about foot & 1/2 away so I never really tried to jump out of way as felt in no danger. Once though, dart came hurdling back and smacked off the top of my foot, luckily had trainers on so no injury. The last straw was when the dart flew back, bounced off the floor and skidded past me by about 2 foot into the other room

I then went and bought eclipse pro, recommended, probably cut down bounce outs by about 98% for me!

Usually big bounce outs are due to the type of wire on the board. My board gives massive bounces outs and its because the wire is very thick and round rather than thin and pointed like on an eclipse pro.

I have to agree with ye on the Eclipse pro boards. I bought one 2 weeks ago after I actually wore out my Nodor supabull 2 over the past 8-9 months. I was having loads of bounce outs on it and the red trebles were all gone too dark to see if the darts were in them etc, so it had to go.

The wires on the Eclipse pro are very very thin and they are embedded pretty deep into the board also so the red/green bits cannot be battered out to the other sides of the wires like on most boards where the wire is just stapled on over the surface.

We have had one in the local pub for a good 2-3 months now also and it has stood up a lot better to the high rate of punishment than any of the last several ones that barely lasted a month.

The only fault I can find with the Eclipse Pro is the black plastic wedges that hold the number ring on the outside ot the board are not as well held on as on most boards. After someone in the pub turned the board around only once or twice, they were falling out and the tacks that hold them in place are not as long as on Nodor boards so they can come out a lot easier and one of them got lost over the Xmas.

I donated one off my previous board and when it was tapped in to place, it was a lot more solid then the 3 original ones.

This is not an issue for a home use board though as pub boards always get a lot more abuse.
